Wanted:To Go on a hunt

Postby firefirghter2 on Mon Nov 01, 2010 12:47 pm

Hello,
I have never been hunting as I was raised by a wonderful single mother(father passed when I was young) and no brothers just an older sister. I've been interested in going hunting but lack the knowledge about the sport. I have nothing against people that do hunt as I am a member of PETA(People Eating Tasty Animals :) ). I would like go on a hunt to see if it's something I may like to get into. I would provide my own gear(I'm not rich) just don't own a hunting firearm. If anyone would like to take me with them on a hunt(advance notice would be great as would need to take time off work) I would greatly appreciate it. I would like to experience it before I get all the way into the sport. PM me with any details or offers.
Thank You.

Just a couple of questions first:

-Were you born before 1974? If you are not, you will have to go through hunter safety class to get a permit. If you want to just tag along and not hunt yourself, that is a moot point of course.
-What kind of hunting would you like to do? Hunting is as varied as the smells in your Bed, Bath and Beyond. Deer? Duck? Squirrel? Sasquatch? The Dutch? Pheasant? All are unique and pose their own rewards and challenges.
-I take it you're not gunshy. I don't want you running back to the truck yelping after the first shot.
I have a Colt Python and you don't so what do I care...

Wow, awesome reference. Half man, half bear, half pig. You might be alright after all.

Manbearpig is too easy. I prefer going after Skuzzlebutt. Now there's a challenge:

You have to be careful of the celery hand and the Patrick Duffy leg is especially dangerous.

Minimum is right, I wouldn't pursue with anything less, no way no how.

Just a opinion/suggestion here: I would start out with a bird hunt first. Not only is it less of a production than a full deer hunt, but you will have a better chance of finding someone willing to take you out bird hunting, especially if they don't really know you. From there you can make some friends, see if you like the hunting thing, and work up to a full blown deer hunt.

Are you sure about 1974? The only date I can find is December 31 1979. I've looked through the hunting and trapping regulations and the website and this is the earliest date I can find for a requirement. I only ask because I was born in 1977 and I was thinking about hunting with a friend two years ago and I thought I was fine.
