As was mine.. :(

Congrats Strad!!!

Thanks! And sorry to hear it fellas.

I learned a few things about adrenaline this weekend. It does some interesting things. Well, for me anyways.........

#1. It makes the front site jump out at me. I saw that thing solid, and clear as day. Not sure I've ever been as focused on anything else in my life. As a matter of fact, I can still see the site picture now.........

#2. It takes the normally near shoulder dislocating recoil of a .45-70 and turns it into a .22. I didn't even feel it.

#3. It makes me shake like Michael J. Fox for about 5 minutes after the Deer drops.

Wow, what a fun experience.

I've used a scope for the last 30 years, so I can't say that I've ever noticed the front sight phenomenon you mention.

I'm guessing you not only didn't feel the recoil of the rifle, you probably never noticed the noise from the shot, either.

I shot my first deer 29 years ago. I've shot more than a dozen since then, and I still shake after shooting one. The worst I ever had was two years ago after shooting a 10-point buck. I was in a ladder stand 21 feet off the ground, and was I shaking so hard I damn near fell out of it.

PS - congrats on your first deer.

Congrats on the first deer. I'm still waiting to get my first one. The first weekend was a bust for me.

Shot my 40 or 50-somethingish deer this afternoon. Huge doe. Pics up later.

AWESOME!

Deerhunting is my favorite, and recently it's been a much anticipated reunion with family and friends.

Regarding field dressing, it's really funny how everyone has their own techniques. I"m still trying to find mine. My dad does it ultra precise (Because he's a surgeon) and only needs a razor honed knife. My grandpa makes it look like a slasher film and uses an axe with a knife. Our family friend can make quick work but it's a little rough, and he uses a saw with a knife (he also tends to stab my dad when he's holding the legs for him , like every year ).

Holy ****! Either you are 1) older than dirt 2) often allowed to shoot multiple deer back in the day 3) Allowed to hunt after being potty trained.

I believe the correct answer is 4) both 1 & 2

I am older than dirt---and I have been fortunate enough to shoot all the deer for everyone in our hunting party many times over.

Nice shot Strad.

I'm a newby also but now 3 for 3. If you are in the woods long enough one will come by. My three were second, forth and forth day of the season.
