Mediocre Hunter

I have recently moved to Rochester and am in search of a hunting group or partner to go with. I am unaware of any places to hunt here and just looking for guidance. I'm 22 just got out of college and ready to shoot some birds and deer!!

welcome to the board! if i was still in the cities I would be able to help. me and my buddy started going out of state for birds when we were 16 ( im 22 now). we would go to iowa first, cause it was cheaper, and then we started going to south dakota. we just stayed in hotels. it was alot of fun, but we didnt do too well due to a number of things. lots of public land around the webster, SD area. great place for duck hunting as well. southwestern MN has a few walk in areas now that sound good for some birds. if you dont have a dog yet, get one and train it! itll be a blast. let me know if you make it up near duluth any time this fall. Ill be out looking for grouse to shoot.

good to hear man. take advantage of the walk in areas in the western part of the state, or find a WMA where you can hunt some ducks! your in a great area. early goose starts saturday, and duck hunting starts the 22nd. theres plenty of people from down that way from the board that may be along soon.

I've been around guns and shooting all my life and at the age of 48 I'm going to start hunting. I have a friend that did some guide work in your area. I'm trying to contact him now and I'll see if he can be of assistance to you.

I bought a Nova back around 2000 or 2001, any way, It is a great gun I use it for every thing. I hunt pheasants, ducks, geese, and deer with it and it has never let me down. You just bought the bet gun for the money you ever could find.

I would try to get a part time job helping a goose hunting guide service if I was 22 and lived in Rochester. That way you could get to hunt in the prime spots for free, meet a ton of fellow hunters, and earn a little cash to pay for gas and shells. Rochester has world class Giant Canada Goose hunting. Some of the outfitters are Broken Wing (owner is Jeff Bruns) and Premier Flight Guide Service (owner Dean Tlougan). Both guys are great and I have hunted with both outfits a number of times. Most of their guides hunt multiple game species not just geese.
