What is it with everyone having to use 3" shells? A quality 2 3/4" slug will do the job and some.

It is knda like guys saying they need a 12ga for pheasant. I'm shooting a 28ga for pheasant these days and another guy on this site can confirm it does the job just fine.

The only reason guys need all this extra power for hunting is to make up for crappy shooting ability. Save you money on the extension and go to the range.

I use a twelve for roosters. I notice that it did increase my range over my 20 gauge. We have a guy in our group that uses a 28 gauge. He has no trouble droppin any rooster inside 40 yards. I can't even remember the last time I bought 3" inch shells. But I agree with ya 1000% When I was lookin for a huntin pistol I bought a .44 mag. NOt the .454, not the .500 and not the .460! I figured it wouldn't be worth it.

Even Heffay has that figured out.

You are not kidding. My all time deer killing machine is a Remington 1100, LT 20 with a Hastings cantilevered scope mount, fully rifled barrel shooting 2.75" Lightfield sabots. Friggin' tack driver.

Switch to a AR I did, I can use the 30rd mags and the weight of the bigger magazine helps with recoil atleast initially.

I'm assuming that he is hunting in the southern part of the state and you can't use rifles there. So that's a no go, unless its an AR Pistol... :D that would be sweet.

The advantage i see is 3" drops a lot less at 75-100 yards than 2.75" does. Makes the holdover a little less drastic. Recoil isn't that bad when in your winter hunting get up.

But, doesnt work for everyone.

They don't. That's why people make Hello Kitty ones for their 8-year old daughters.

I'm pretty sure there is more forward recoil from the closing bolt
