Opening morning is magical, the crisp fall air, the darkness of night with maybe some moon light. Breath it in my brothers, and remeber that moment before you step into the woods for at that moment you get to experiance mother nature at her finest, serine, calm, bold.
Just before I step into the woods on opening morning I like to take a moment and say a prayer. I call it the hunter's prayer and while it is a work in progress someday I would like to write it down and hope that my children carry on my tradition long after I am dead.
This year I think it will go something like this:
Lord, we thank you for allowing us this opportunity to partake of your wonderous creation,
We know that you are the master of all things and we hope that our actions on this hunt are seen as honorable and please you Lord,
We ask that if you find us worthy that we be allowed to harvest a noble creature that you created by your hand,
We promise to treat your creatures and your land with honor and respect only taking what we intent to use to feed us and out families,
May the wind not betray us,
May our shot fly true and kill cleanly,
May the game we take not suffer unduly,
And my we return home safe to our families at the end of the day.
AMEN
