This is the "pre-tenderized" spike buck that Tman helped me get. I ended up stabbing it, no shots fired by me or any other hunter! Take that purists!

I'm not sure how to score my first ever deer since I didn't get it through my (minimal) hunting prowess, but it's in my freezer now.

I was in the Baker Park special hunt, had heard one deer and seen another without getting a shot. I was walking the trail (for you skiers, the Island Trail) and heard something in the woods. I discovered a nice buck, gut shot, still alive but on it's last legs. I finished it off, waited a while for someone to claim it. I tracked it's prints back to the causeway from the mainland, but no blood trail. After taking the better part of an hour to gut it (did I mention it was my first deer?), still no owner. I told the story to the guys at the park hunt center and they didn't object, so I took it home and a friendly neighbor helped me butcher it. Venison, it's what's for dinner.

Congrats on being a good-guy and trying to find out who shot it first instead of acting like the great-white-hunter.

Have you ever had someone show you how to dress a deer? Even splitting the pelvis with a little saw (I just started doing that this year, and think I will continue to do so), it takes all of 5-minutes once you've done a few.
It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.
