Water Bottles

Postby shotz90s on Thu Nov 14, 2013 9:41 pm

I had this conversation with a member tonight already and thought I would save someone else the frustration. Water bottles. You know the ones you get in the 24 packs or individually at the convenience store that are barely more than a stiff plastic bag right? Well these little pieces of crud also make one hell of a noise when you put them down. No matter how careful you are to release your grip on them when a really nice doe is staring right at you but cannot smell you, it will crackle like mad and send said doe off into the brush never to be seen again. Consider this your warning. I should have thought of this and kick myself after last weekend. Because of this I have no venison. Next year, thermos or stiffer bottle. I feel like an idiot :hammer:

Even quieter to drink your own pee. That's what the guy on T.V. does.

On the plus side it would be a nice warm drink. Sort of like tea.

This right here is why I don't drink tea.

They actually make two different types of water bottles now. The thin kind your familiar with, and a thicker variety that is for use in vending machines....the thin kind bend and jam up in the machines.

I was told yesterday that Lifewater makes a stiffer bottle plus you get flavored. I'll use that and be more cautious next year. I can only imagine the disaster a flimsy water bottle like that could cause in vending machines.

why not use a hydration pack with a bite valve pinned to your collar?

Because my wife says I'm a tight-a$$ LOL. Really, that would be a good idea and something that I'll be looking into I guess.

I prefer to get my water straight from a deer/bear/buffalo/etc track. More manly and gives one the flavor of the wilderness.

the issue with a bladder is, the water in the hose can freeze on you leaving you with an icicle and no water to drink. Gotta love winter.

I just get the 1 L bottles and toss them in the hunting pack.

Mix a little sugar in the water and it'll lower the freezing point a bit.

Not enough to handle a true MN or ND winter day. I used my camelbak out on hunts in ND. At 10-15 F, how much sugar do you want to add? More than I care for. It's why I drink water.

Make it a point to keep your waterbottle or whatever turned upside down too.

All that coughing, sputtering, and spitting? Totally quiet.

When its cold out, they make insulated camelbacks that I've used for skiing and winter camping. I have worn it under my coat so my body heat keeps it from freezing and if you do it correctly and put warm water into, it can keep you warm while you wear it and when you drink it because your ingesting a closer to body temperature liquid
