Sam, Thank you for your kind words. I am very proud of the boy. He is one of the reasons I have hope for the future. :) Our party is up to 11 so far. The weird part is 10 have been males, 8 with legal racks but nothing huge. The one doe fawn we harvested sans the hide and head weighed 29 pounds :o  :o . All the deer have very little fat as compared to past years. Might be a tough year for them.

we butchered on Monday and all three seeemed to have a pretty good supply of fat - even the fawn. wonder what kind of available feed variations there have been this year. Nice results everybody - I've been impressed with the attitudes and skills described of the new crop of hunters! Good parenting skills guys (well, at least on the topic of hunting and conservation anyway)!

got six of em on sunday morning just off the west savanna river, five does and an eight point buck. Heard them running through the ridge and they all neatly ran past me and dropped one by one. I got my limit and my buddys second deer in a space of thirty seconds, it'll never happen again

I will get the pics up as soon as i can get my self to walgreens and get them developed. Gonna have a pretty full freezer this time two weeks from now :D :D

All the does were fatty as heck, and according to the ranger on site, they were the first does of the season for him and he was glad to see people taking them before the bucks, all i can say is they all taste good to me. Final weekend is coming up, gotta fill that archery tag now. still got a doe on that, pity I wont be in the park though.

anyways good luck to all the rest of you and congrats to the rest. D

They were still alive when I left a week ago, but I got an email from my mom this morning......

My dad shot a 6-pointer on Sunday morning OUT OF MY STAND. This is the third consecutive year he's shot a buck out of my stand. Hopefully, there'll be another one out there next weekend.

In the freezer, so I would have to say dead.

SAM wrote:DEAD--Finally!! :) Took a nice doe this morning out of Macphistos blind here in deer heaven. About 7:15 at a distance of about 20 ft. Mine was the only shot I heard all morning--not many hunters out.

That's great to hear. I didn't want to be the only one to take a deer home from those woods.

I have to ask how far away from you were they? Six one-shot kills on running deer in half-a-minute is nuts. If you did it at 100+ yards, I am officially calling dibs on you for any future "rattle-battle" highpower matches.....

What he didn't tell you is that he dropped out of the tree, and took them all with his hunting knife while riding the back of the buck.
