Weekend results?

Postby Glenn_S on Sun Nov 09, 2014 6:47 am

Party of 3 near Nickerson. My son in law dropped a 5 pointer and I got a fork horn, we each shot within 3 minutes of each other at 7:00 am. Both deer are big bodied bucks with smaller antlers.

The two boys are out this morning hoping to fill my sons tag before the weather hits. We were going to stay until tomorrow but pulling a camper in heavy snow is not fun so I am getting things packed up.

By "big bodied bucks, with small antlers" do you mean they are older, mature deer?

Crappy through the scope pic of a doe that I let walk by.

I've seen 9 deer so far, but with this 1 tag per person I'll be waiting for a mature buck. If I don't get my buck I'll take a doe with the bow later on.

this is the first opener in a long time where I haven't even seen a deer yet! and my usually infallible hunting buddy actually shot twice at a buck and missed both times... hopefully the snow will come in and give me a little help!

I think the weathe is doing weird things. I saw nothing either Saturday or Sunday morning, but have seen 5-6 does and fawns each evening, but since I don't have a doe tag, looks likeI try again with the muzzleloader season.

Sat in the stand all day and finally the first deer to set foot on the property was put down a little after 4:00 Saturday. Ran about 30 yards onto the neighbors property and I saw him go down so by the time I did my do diligence to notify the neighbor it was dark and this is the best iphone picture I could get. This was near Staples.

I got this guy about 4 on Saturday as well, about 15 miles west of Staples. Staples seems to be a popular destination on the internet this year!

He was walking along the edge of our field with his nose in the air, not 15 minutes after the neighbor walked by on his side of the fence. Seven points, guessing around 170. The next morning this guys older brother walked down the same line of scrapes. I was on a different stand so he was about 300 yards out but I probably would have let him go by anyway.

Lousy picture, hanging in the machine shed.

I had this one down by 7:10 am Saturday morning. Haven't weighed it. But this biggest one I shot was 232lbs, and this one felt every bit as heavy. Two guys struggled to get him into my truck. Just a hair over 100 yards with a slug. Second shot dropped him. Thru the shoulder and into the heart. First shot was "buck fever" I think. Lol

Saturday was my first day hunting ever - I saw more dear driving up north than in the stand :). Could only do one day this year so looking forward to next year!

Went to the cabin for the weekend, the only deer I saw were a doe with a yearling and two fawns in the driveway of Friday and a doe and fawn that came to check out the bird feeder Saturday afternoon. They are regulars and any activity around the cabin brings them in looking for handouts. They were disappointed this time.

I came home Sunday night due to the weather. It kept me inside all day Monday as well as this morning. I did go out behind the house this afternoon and ended up shooting a small 8 pt buck less than 15 minutes after climbing into the stand. So, I am done for the year and can get busy readying for a NoDak pheasant trip next week. That is, after getting the snowblower out and finishing off the driveway and getting to the cabin to clean things up there.

In about 24hrs I'll be in my brand new ground blind hunting white tail deer for the first time ever. Hopefully I can see a shoot a big big buck.

Got a 7 pointer on Wednesday the 12th at 4:30 in the evening. Shot with a .308 at 30 yards. Big bodied with a nice set of antlers. I shot him through the heart and cut it in half. 2 deer, in 2 years, with 2 shots. A good day.
