Had to say Goodbye to my bird dog

Postby mmcnx2 on Tue Aug 15, 2017 10:06 pm

Just got back form the vet, my 16 year old Brittany had been battling a tumor a tonight she had a paralyzing stroke.

I kind of knew that last year was our last in the field but it still hurts to say goodbye to my hunting partner.

Losing a hunting partner is one of the hardest things we willingly put ourselves through.

Although my dog is a pet and not a working dog, she's more important to me than every living creature on planet earth, behind only my wife and daughter. I've kept saying no more dogs for the past 20 years, and I keep replacing them. Losing the last one was the toughest and only gave in to my daughter's constant begging. As it turns out the new dog (11 years ago already) picked me as her primary "buddy" anyway. All this to say that I know the terrible feeling of losing even the closest family members and beloved dogs. There isn't much difference. Im very sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear that. One of my greatest joys in life is just watching my hairy friend get "birdy". The day that stops will probably bring me to my knees.

Sorry for your loss. I lost my 16 year old German Short hair Pointer in June last year. It really did a number on me. I still miss her like crazy

I'm very sorry, I've been down the same road more than once.

Been down that road 7 times and zero where easy and most where really tough. Only one passed on his own and having to put one down is excruciating.

Feel for your loss.
