Hit a pig in the right spot with a .300 Blk or heck, with a good hunting bullet .223 and you have a dead pig. (-and I’m a guy who prefers bigger stuff myself...)

I’m no great shakes with a rifle, unlike guys like Erud but I have gone into herds of Cape buffalo with just a double barrel gun. The danger from pigs is greatly overstated. I’ve done buffalo, bears, cats, pachyderms all with bolt guns and double barreled guns... you don’t need more bullets...just put them in the right place.

There is only one reason to use a semi auto on pigs... because you WANT to.

I’ll make this clarification. There’s a significant difference between hunting pigs and eradicating them. Harvesting “A” hog doesn’t require a semi auto. Liquidating an entire sounder of those feral, invasive and destructive pigs, does.

So you are saying you don't know how to run a bolt gun then?

That was gnarly. Not in a good way. But think about deer season too. How many times have you heard a guy completely unloading his rifle or shotgun at a deer? And only stopping because they’ve reached their mag or tube limit? So many *********** hunt that don’t have respect for the animal they’re hunting let alone the people that may be out there hunting with them.

I take great pride in not owning any bolt action rifles (or revolvers, for that matter). I’m strictly semi auto.

Given what I’ve seen in Texas, even with a semiauto you will not eradicate a sounder of feral hogs.

You might get 2 or 3 in most places. Any pressure at all and they get in thick stuff and disappear in a second or two once you start shooting.

If a semiauto eradicated pigs, they wouldn’t have the issues they do.

The only way to eradicate is poison. -and the bykill guarantees they won’t be able to use that much.

You might control numbers a bit with shooting... but the way most ranchers treat hunting/shooting pigs, it’s a cash crop. (Meaning the trespass fees and the trophy fees most seem to want.)

Helicopter shooting and night shooting don’t kill that many, mostly it convinces the rest to move elsewhere.

Helicopter shooting with a mini-gun, now there is something for the forum to argue about the ethics of :hmm:

Old school thinking... how about thermal imaging, auto-aiming, app-enabled drones? You wouldn't want to make people look up from their phones, would you? Or leave their mama's basement?

There's always the old Mountain Howitzer.

Works for deer, should work on pigs.

Looks a little on the heavy side to be drone mounted.

Depends on the size of the drone
