I wouldn't call them majestic, but they're mighty tasty. Have you ever tried cooking one before you shot it? That sounds hard! :rotf:

Bison just are not that wary most of the time. No need for extreme range. I've seen them killed with .270s to .45-70s. If I went, it would be fun to use a sharps replica, or an 1886 in an old buffalo caliber.

I admit I did not read the article.

My asking about shooting at distance was only due to my current knee issue.

Looks like a $3 tail and a good butterflied side of meat for some heavily buttered mashed potatoes to me.

Bob, you're making me hungry! Saturday (small game opener) is so close I can almost taste it.

MURPHY T considers them as Tree Rats.
Extermination by Bassett Hound becomes quite comical while watching the chase.

338 Lapua Magnum up to 1000 yards. That's as far as I am proficient at shooting. Rifle could do more with a more expirienced shooter than me.

I wonder why they wouldn't make more of an effort to round up and auction the animals to ranchers who want to start herds of their own. I know nothing about whether they are difficult to raise, but I assume there would be some interest. I have seen herds sporadically in Minnesota on fenced property. It is tasty meat although I have only eaten in restaurants.

Ever see the movie/documentary unbranded?

They don't herd well unless they have been brought up with it. They will charge a pickup or guy on a horse.

They are also out in hard to reach areas, thus the lookout for reasonably fit folks.

From the article it looks like they will round up what they can, and shoot the rest to meet targets.
