The regulation:
97B.086 POSSESSION OF NIGHT VISION OR THERMAL IMAGING EQUIPMENT.
(a) A person may not possess night vision or thermal imaging equipment while taking wild animals or while having in possession, either individually or as one of a group of persons, a firearm, bow, or other implement that could be used to take wild animals.
(b) This section does not apply to a firearm that is:
(1) unloaded;
(2) in a gun case expressly made to contain a firearm that fully encloses the firearm by being zipped, snapped, buckled, tied, or otherwise fastened without any portion of the firearm exposed; and
(3) in the closed trunk of a motor vehicle.
(c) This section does not apply to a bow that is:
(1) completely encased or unstrung; and
(2) in the closed trunk of a motor vehicle.
(d) If the motor vehicle under paragraph (b) or (c) does not have a trunk, the firearm or bow must be placed in the rearmost location of the vehicle.
(e) This section does not apply to night vision or thermal imaging equipment possessed by peace officers or military personnel while exercising their duties.

New thermal MN hunting rig

Nice! Do you plan to use that on a real rifle in a "free" state?

I want one of those scope display models they use at Gander that is basically the same thing made of wood. I have an ATN X-Sight coming that would be nice to mount on one when "hunting" for some cool night footage.

During daytime, the ATN will sit on a 10/22 to get some fun range footage.

Heinous typos thanks to autocorrect.

There is no reason it shouldn't be legal for the taking of coyotes in MN. I assume the DNR's opposition to it would be the same as their opposition to suppressors. But we are allowed to hunt coyotes at night, but without lights, NV or thermal. That is a law that should be changed.

Well a BB gun shoots something, an unmachined 80% lower is really a chunk of aluminum. Would it make a difference if I glued a picatinney rail on an Easton?

Tony Cornish is why we can't use rifles with lights, or NV, or thermal. Don't confront him about it though, he'll call you a meathead.

Well Tony is wrong on this issue. We have night hunting for coyotes. Why isn't being able to accurately identify your target with red or green LED light or a NV or thermal scope a smart thing? If that is being a meathead to Tony then he should look in the mirror to see a meathead looking back at him.

Coyotes are tearing up our deer herds and controlling their population is inherent in managing our deer herd for the hunt quality that Minnesotans seem to want. lights, NV and Thermal only make good safety and predator control sense.
