caliber and round for white tails

Usually hunt with a Freedom Arms model 83 in .454 Casull, topped with a Leupold 2X LER.
Back up is a Remington 700 in .35 Whelen, may take my S&W M&P-10 in .308 Winchester.

Thompson center black diamond 50 cal with a Williams peep sight. 100 grains of pyrodex under a 300 grain soft lead bullet, blue sabot. Been considering using my 44mag super redhawk but i haven't found a hand load im happy with at 50 yards.

Damn near any respectable handload will work at 50 yards.

250 grain cast using Unique or 2400

240 grain Hornady XTP with near max loading of WIN296

300 grain Nosler, Hornady, Sierra with a near max loading of WIN296

Only using "near max loading of WIN296" because it should not be used with reduced loads due to "detonation" issues.

If you can't hit a whitetail deer in the vitals at 50 yards with a Super Redhawk, maybe you should be using a camera instead.
"Minute of deer" is about 8" diameter.

Never said it wouldn't be a dead deer at 50 yards. Besides shooting test loads is a good exsuse for going to the range.

The 300gr XTPs H110 loads held around 4-5 inches for 3 shots. 240gr ACME swc and blue dot held 4 inches for 6 shots, but I can't use them in Minnesota for deer (have to be able to expand). I've tryed 2400, unique, and lil gun in addition to the powders already mentioned with 200 and 240gr XTPs, but I've yet to retest them with my red dot mounted.

I know the gun is capable of more, I just have to up my skills to match it.

I've got a custom 7mm Mag built off a Remington 700 action. Ammo is loaded using Berger 168 gr VLD's.

In the rifle zone- looking at Savage 1899 in 38/55 with 255 gr Win factory loads or a Marlin 336 in 35 Rem with factory Rem with 200 gr Core-Lokts. if I use the "long range" stand or the weather is bad, then a Savage 16 in 7mm/08 with 140 gr Cre-Lokts will get the nod. Choices are subject to change at any moment other than the bad weather gun.

Shotgun zone- 20 ga Rem 870 with Rem Copper Solid sabots. Back up is a Beretta 391 in 12 ga using Lightfield sabot slugs.

If it gets to it, a 54 caliber T/C Renegade, 80 hrs FFg, and a Lyman Great Plains conical.

I ended up with the 30-06 Federal Vital Shock 180gr Trophy Bond. I'll be hunting an area directly adjacent to a new slashing from last winter, so longer shots are possible - 300-400 yards at least. My level of competency out to that range is not great, so I'll have to assess whether the conditions are correct for me to attempt the longer shot. H&R Handi in 44mag shooting handloaded 240gr bullets.

Steering them with a Weaver 1-3x

In the stand I will have a Mossberg Patriot topped with a Vortex Diamonback and 308 Win 150 gr Fusions. When I get out of the stand and spot/stalk (how I get most of my deer) through the thicker brush a Pre-Rem Marlin 336 in 35 Remington shooting handloaded 200 Grain Sierra bullets. I will have my RIA 1911 10mm with also, just incase I can get close enough. Due to work schedule, I don't leave until Sunday afternoon. Hunting for me begins Monday. Hopefully most people will have gone home, which is usually the case. Then I can have all 1100 acres of public land to myself while the other 4 people I am going with group hug on 80 acres of private.
