Mn Handgun Regs is same as Rifle" anything larger than .22

I personally think this is a**enine, but everyone wanted to "simplify" things. I can't wait to see how many "hunters" i come accross running around the woods with a taurus 9mm.

laugh, but you know they're out there!

the security six is the 6" variant of the speed six. mighty fine for the bambi.

Also, do the MN regs specify a power floor or just, as I seem to recall, minimum caliber & case length for handgun?

Don't know about the XTP bullet availability, I always order and keep a supply on hand. There is no power factor, just a minimum caliber of .220 and it must be center fire cartridge, not a rimfire and not a muzzleloading revolver.

Cut and paste from the Minnesota regulations.
LEGAL FIREARMS FOR BIG GAME
It is at least .220 caliber and has center fire ignition;
It is loaded only with single projectile ammunition;
The projectile used has a soft point or is an expanding bullet type;*
• The muzzleloader (long gun or handgun) used cannot be loaded at
the breech (muzzleloading revolvers are not legal for taking big game);
• The smooth-bore muzzleloader used is at least .45 caliber and
• The rifled muzzleloader used is at least .40 caliber;
• Muzzleloaders with scopes are legal during the regular firearms deer
seasons, but are not allowed during the muzzleloader season except by
special permit for hunters with a medically certified visual impairment.
Applications are available from the DNR Info Center, see page 127.

MN opener = Rem 1100 16ga

WI opener = Win mod 70 30-06, or Win 1894 .30 WCF, haven't decided yet. I replaced the old Redfield on my -06 with a Leupold this summer, otherwise it would be a no brainer -- I really want to give my 30-30 a run at it..
Sent from my NES using up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A!

Since we hunt on both sides of 95 I'll be using a Ruger international model 77 in .308 150 nosler partitions or a 870 with a hastings
rifled barrel 2 3/4 sabots.My 3" 629-2 260 grain jsp will be with for the duration of the hunt.

if its nice weather, then the Savage 99 in the pic on the other thread, its a leuppy 1x4x scope, the load is a 165 nosler partition at 2450 fps, 41 grains of either reloader 15 or Varget, both work well.

If its really crappy rain/sleet/ etc, I use the twin of that gun only with a lyman 66 peep sight, shoots the same load and hits with little meat damage.

If we cross the river and go swamp hunting, then its the .44 trapper in a 94 winchester. again with a peep sight. very fast for those twenty yard shots.

handgun is a old flat top ruger in .45 colt. 4 5/8ths barrel, load in it is a 265 Keith style bullet on top of a lot of Lil Gun. 20 grains of lil gun in the 45 colt behind the HC LSWC will give something like 1300 FPS. which is a powerful punch.

I've got a scratched up Remington 700 ADL or BDL (I can't recall right now...) in 30.06 with a cheapy Bushnell Hunter scope and whatever Remington Core-Lokts were on sale (and had rebate) 8 or 9 years ago. I believe they're 150gr...maybe 165. This is the setup I've used nearly every year since 1997. The scope cost about $70 at Holiday. I know I shouldn't be able to hit anything with such a crappy scope but I've never missed a deer and have only needed a single shot. The last time I zero'd in the scope was about 8 years ago. In fact, I've been on the same box of shells for quite a while, since I've never shot more than one deer a year.

yes, its possible, but before Gander Mtn was resurrected as a name, Holiday stores and holiday sports were big box sporting good stores. When the parent company wanted to expand, they went back to the Gander Mtn name as it at one time had some national recognition.
