1-8 Strike Eagle scope. I'm sure a red dot would be fine too, I hunt in Pine County where you'd be lucky to have an 80 yard shot at the most.

Hey I am in Pine county too. Where abouts?

What firearm are you using for deer opener?

Thanks. I went down to 2x scope for much of the same reason but stayed away from 1x because the “internet wisdom” says those are not good in low light.

IF I decide to hunt Wisconsin, I will use my RPR 338LM using reloads of Fed215M, H-1000, Hornady 270 ELD-X. I have capability for long range shooting in many places in Bayfield County Wisconsin. I may need a volunteer to retrieve any deer I may shoot.

Due to the status of my legs, the big question is: IF .

I hunt opening weekend at Chengwatana with my family, we're originally from the area and some of us have been hunting there since the 40s. I also have land near Duxbury that can see some action, too.

I hunted a year with a Romeo 5 red dot and it was fine as long as I kept the dot intensity correct for the ambient light. If you have it turned up too high it washes out your target.

Got it. I started hunting St. Croix State Forest in 1999 and took my kids on a couple of youth hunts in St. Croix State Park. Then picked up some land by Finlayson a few years ago. I have always liked that area. Good deer movement and decent population but yet close enough to the cities to get to and still in the rifle zone.

exactly. I can see St. Croix State Park from my stand in Chengwatana, I'm right down on the Kettle and the park is just across the water. I see people hiking out there all the time.
