GOOD LUCK---------STAY SAFE

Postby SAM on Sun Oct 31, 2010 7:50 pm

Good luck to everyone that is going out for the deer opener this coming weekend. Wear all the orange you can and stay safe as well. I really don't want to hear that someone does not come home. I spent another evening in the woods (rather than hand out goodies to trick or treaters) and there are plenty of deer this year and they are most certainly in the rut. Have fun--stay safe--and bag the new state record. :D

Thanks. You too. I have a good spot picked out. Not sure if it's state record good, but I hope to get at least a couple deer from it this year.

Wear your fall protection, don't doze off, make sure of your target...and save the drinking for after the hunt (sorry, thats the professional in me.)

Here's hoping to taking off for deer camp early Thursday night! Good luck Gents & Ladies!

I'm headed out right after work Friday morning. I'm going to get a hunt or two in with the bow before sat's opener.

There's a big doe I want to take with an arrow out of spite (she's evaded me twice now), but will have no problem putting lead in her if that's what it takes to make her into sausage. I got to 70 yards on where she was bedding friday morning and then she spooked.

we are in an intensive harvest zone and can take 5 animals apiece. If all goes well we will be well stocked in venison for the winter.......and the spring..........and next summer.

We are lucky to be on private land and everyone has a nice comfy deerstand, so all the shots are accounted for and safe. Not always on target, but accounted for and safe.

Curious if I'm the only one..........when you shoot a deer do you say a little prayer of thanks for being fortunate enough to have done so. I was talking to a couple of guys I hunt with and they reluctantly admitted that they do. I think its a macho thing that they may not want to admit that they give thanks for the opportunity to harvest a wild creature. No one taught me to do it, it just sort of comes natural.

cant' wait to see if i get a good one in the scope and cant' wait for the local divey bars in the middle of nowhere. usually a good story on a sunday morning involving a redneck homemade stripper pole

It's almost anti-climatic for me, since I've been deer hunting once a week (or more) for a month and a half now. But I'm still excited to have a week off work to go shoot bambi's.

I'm not looking for a state record - anything with legal antlers will do just fine! those monster antlers make pretty thin soup... and big huge animals makes dragging them out way too much like exercise! I'm plenty happy with a medium-sized beast, since I'm in lousy shape at the moment.

ditto the stay safe messages! it was only a couple years back when I'm pretty sure I was the last person to talk face to face to a young man who managed to kill himself. He had borrowed an older military weapon from his hunting buddy due to some lowlife stealing his rifle, and I suspect he might not have been familiar enough with the safety, or that the safety was too hard to work so he may have left it off. (pure speculation on my part, never did hear anything about official findings from the investigation) make sure you know how your gear works, and use the appropriate safety devices (although, I'm a naughty guy - I don't use a harness in my stand, but it's a pretty sturdy ladder design with a 3'x3' top deck that is strapped pretty tightly to the tree, so I don't think one is really neccessary!)

have fun, be safe, good luck, enjoy the bonding time with mother nature! (don't you just love it when a chickadee lands on you?)

I think it's gonna be a great season for all who get out! I've seen more deer this year while grouse/pheasant hunting than I can ever recall, they are literally everywhere. Good luck all! Can't wait to hear some stories and see some pictures.

Many deer on our land this year. Looking forward to a fun week up north. I don't hunt as hard as I did when I was a young man but still enjoy deer camp! Looks like cool weather but not cold enough to freeze your **** off!
