Very good slide show of what looks like a pair of coyotes killing a very nice buck. The buck appears to still be in velvet, so I guess the antlers may not be that good of a weapon.

Got the call out last night and charged it up, now I just have to load up a few more rounds for my 22-250 and get out there and call. I have several pictures of a pair of coyotes in my yard under the apple trees. They seem to be coming in a couple times a week, but so are several deer an possum.

Interesting slide shoe. Those trail cams are great.

A co-worker of mine has had a problem with Coyotes cruising his neighborhood in Eden Prairie. His back yard backs up to some sort of nature preserve. They appear to be getting pretty bold and are often spotted just a few feet from his deck. He is trying to get "clearance" from one of his neighbors to solve the problem and asked to use my predator call if he can get the neighbor to look the other way when he pops it. He has a bolt .22 that should do the job at the distances he is working with Sub 100 feet  :o :o

The neighbor in question is a tree hugger liberal who is anti gun and anti hunting. I told him to find out when they will be gone for the weekend or the day and do the deed when they aren't there to witness it. Drag the carcass back into the preserve or drive it to whichever county now has a bounty. The other neighbors are on board with the "hunt" and are a bit more realistic about the dangers that close proximity to wild animals presents. I guess a few own ankle biter dogs and most have small kids. Niether do you want coming into close contact with a predator.

Sounds like you are planning to harvest those Coyotes Cobb - good luck.

If they are coming that close, a leghold trap and a dirthole set should be his first point of attack. Followed by a 22 CB out of a handgun and no one will be the wiser.

Yep, we are missing a couple cats also, no big deal, got too many anyway. The neighbor also lost a pet cat, was still really a kitten and use to travel between our place and his, about 400 feet along the woods. I have a couple programed sounds that are cats or kittens in distress, figured I use that first in our valley since cats seem to be on the local coyotes menu. The pictures I have of the coyotes on my property are all early morning, 4 am or so until about 6 am, not sure why only those times.

firing a gun within city limits is a very, very bad idea for all involved. don't do it. this makes us look bad :x

at least don't brag about planning to commit a felony on a public message board....

Then in that case, I would recommend a dirt hole set, and a leg hold trap. Then clubbing the animal with a golf club or baseball bat, or maybe a 2x4 with a rusty nail in it. For the health and well being of the neighborhood. You must think of the children you know.

Maybe you should get the whole family and all the kids there to witness it.

Use a bow & arrow, pointy stick(spear), one of those things animal control use (stick with a noose) and just pull it good & tight, etc.

Or, get a live trap, and when you catch something, then take care of it using any of the above methods

In Blaine it doesn't seem to matter what form of projectile-thrower you use (slingshot, bow and arrow, shotgun) - it's all against the city regs:

"The discharge of deadly weapons is prohibited within City limits. Deadly weapons include all firearms, bow and arrows when arrows are point tipped, BB guns and air rifles, and sling shots."

Assuming laws in EP are along the same lines I'd opt for the trap & dispose method or call the city and see if their animal control team will take care of it given the disapearance of pets and danger to small children...

He is well aware that the "taking" is not Kosher, but he is not OK with the City failing to deal with the problem either.

A trap would work but not sure what size you'd need -the #10 Conabear would be an idea but not sure that would work - I don't own any leghold traps anymore. I imagine he would be afraid he'd end up with a neighborhood cat - which could be a bigger PR problem. Anyway, I offered to loan him my Call - he is an adult and can make up his mind as to whether pulling the trigger is a good idea or not. I'll mention the trap idea.

I know that the one neighbor I have has green lighted me to deal with the Racoons in the area. Attempt to live trap those smart little buggers has been fruitless. I'd love to have a video of how they defeated the live traps. I stopped feeding birds because of them damaging my property (railing on the deck is all scratched up - deck boxes chewed on - bird feeders destroyed. Haven't seen them since i stopped feeding birds, but I'm sure If I started up, they would be back. I also worry about Neighbors ratting me out, but understand their concern. Maybe best not to feed birds...................

I'd love to have a video of how they defeated the live traps.

Get a larger live trap. One that the adult raccoon can fully fit into before tripping the door.

I have trapped several. A really large raccoon will prevent the door from fully closing and latching. He will then be able to back out.

I once heard a terrific racket outside. Like 20 tomcats fighting. I went out to check the trap and a really large raccoon was partially in the trap. The door was only partially closed and he was trying to open it as I shot him. (I live in the country, I use live traps because I do not want to trap/kill fox. We have a pair in my area, there are too few fox around with the increase in coyotes.) The large live traps are not cheap. The door on mine measures about 12 " x 16 " and is about 3 feet long. I use canned cat food for bait.

My stepson asked if I shot the racoons in the trap. I told him no, I shot them in the head.
Because I care, I carry.
