Bow and arrow, or gun?

Postby JJ on Tue Feb 26, 2013 12:37 pm

Rac-Em-Bac recently introduced the Bow Mag arrowhead, a cylinder that can hold a .38 or .357 round that fires on impact. The notion of an “arrow bullet” has been around for some time as the ideal combination between stealth and stopping power. On first impression, some hunters may think that the Bow Mag is simply a bang stick shot from a bow. They’re not that far from the truth, but it’s not necessarily a bad

I can forsee this little veture having some troubling legal implications.

Since the arrows fire a bullet, wouldn't the arrows actually be firearms?

Didn't the Dukes of Hazzard perfect the dynamite arrow? Seems to me that would put any piddly 'bullet arrow' to shame.

Here's another one that escapes definition. I will say they are totally awesome, laser accurate (for an arrow) and fun as heck though. http://www.swivelmachine.com/html/rimfire.htm

The 10/22 takedown would be the perfect application for something like that.

It is a dupe, and obviously not legal for MN archery seasons and probably most such seasons however if hunting an animal that is not regulated then that is a non-issue. That said, if you are going to shoot them with a bullet then shoot them with a gun. I supose one could make the arguement that you want to hunt an unregulated animal and use that as practice for your archery hunts and want to have less tracking to do, then there might be some small application for it.

If you shoot that with a bow, how do you control where the projectile goes? Sure, ideally in a deer (or whatever) but hit a stick, have it go off and the bullet went somewhere in left field. How about through the deer and into the guy in the ground blind across the pond from you?

Really a dumb idea.

IMO, of course.

I question how much energy it even delivers. They show pigs, how about shooting a phone book? I'd bet if you used a traditional broadhead the pig would die just the same when hit in the head.
