Deer Processing Recommendations

Postby jtk5768 on Sun Nov 10, 2013 5:47 am

Looking for a good value processor for my deer. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I would like some made into deer sticks and sausage.

How far you wanna drive? The local meat markets down here all do a fantastic job. Each has their fanbase, and everybody swears that the one they use is the best. Kenyon, Montgomery, Dennison (all down by Northfield) are all great butchershops. Kenyon did a less than stellar job with a 1/2 beef for me once, but lots of folks love them. The smells one experiences upon walking into the Montgomery store will convince a guy he's died and gone to sausage heaven.

Th Van Hanson chains do processing and I've heard good things. They made some pheasant maple breakfast sausage for me a few years ago, very good.

When I rattled off the places down around Northfield (kenyon, Montomery, Dennison) I should have listed Gregs first. Prolly the best rep on the south side.

Flicker Meats in white bear lake or oakdale. That is where I bring my scraps for sausage. I like them a lot because it is your meat you get back, not a mixture of others

Thielen's is your deer too. I wouldn't bring it anywhere who gives you the same weight as you brought in. That deer could've been gut shot 5.5yr old shoe leather that tastes like tarsal musk. No thanks!
