Hog Hunting

The hubs and I would LOVE to go hog hunting-- anywhere near the midwest, here. Anyone been, or can give any recommendations? Reasonably priced, of course. All inclusive is not a must.

I do not believe that hogs are hardly around up here... yet. You will either have to go south (Texas is suppose to be wonderful for it). Or go coyote hunting.

Parts of Central Wisconsin are infested with wild hogs, contact the WI DNR for landowners names and contact info.
They are shot as pests in most cases.
An AR-10 works great, using 308WIN loadings.

Look @ Hog Wild, in the Michigan UP. Went there a couple years ago.

Oh regarding HOGG loads: AR 10 is a good choice .. The Russian hogs I shoot are tough... I wouldn't use anything less than .308 ( 7.62x51nato).... Ok so my buddy did well with 7.5 Swiss .... but remember on a farm you draw blood you pay..... I have tracked some pigs 250-500 yards in a very rough terrain ..... where you cant get a 4xwheeler or a snowmobile ..... pulling them out is by human horsepower! 100 yard straight up in need deep snow.... it a B*TCH!!!

I have knocked em down with a shot placement 250 yard with a .308 and still had to put 2 .357 mags 180 buffalo bore hollow points in the brain pan .....

All I am saying is .223/.556x45 is not enough to kill a 180# + hogg .... use something bigger ..... .30-06 .300 wm, 45/70, 12 gg slug.... 7.62x54R, 303 britsh, 8mm mauser, 7mm 500 nitro ..... something that will kill it .... if you need to shoot .204 ruger or .222 swift, .223, 7.62x39 or 22-250 stay with shooting prairie dogs they need killing too.

So, we ended up booking a hunt for March- in Texas. Can't be more excited. We'll see what comes of me hunting with my 5.56 vs the hubs 30-06... Have a friend that will be coming with his compound bow in tow as well.

Tell me more about prairie dogs? You ever been?

my S&W 460 whispered in my ear the other day that it would love to grease a wild hog. I couldn't argue with it.

Hog Hunting

We're planning a hog hunt in March. Thinking Texas, Oklahoma or Tennessee. Guys are planning on bringing 308 AR, 308 bolt gun, 45-70 and 30-30 lever. We'll see how it goes. Thinking about loaning my friends .357 sig and .45 ACP loaded with hard cast lead for backup. Only have one .44 mag.

LumberZach:
You know of anyone that has hunted private land for invasive hogs in WI?
I would love to get more info. I was down in Prairie Du Chein with the wife a year ago and locals talked of wild hogs like they were ghosts. Ever since I have had baited breath to take one or many from private land in wild. Anymore info would help. My modded out 700 is waiting...
