home from Hogg hunting

I am just home from HOGG huntin"

I shot two large boars...... the first from about 125 yards using a Sako A7 300 win mag and a speer 180 bullet.... I hit the beast 1/2 behind the left shoulder ... he launched into a magnificent 20-25 yard crappie dance and squeal .. before flopping into a sort of snow-pig angel ........ he was big maybe 275-285 lbs

the other pig was also a boar ... he was big maybe nearly the same weight but not as tall .... he stood at 180 yards and at a slight angle....snow was falling heavily.... I nailed him with the same gun and cartridge .... he lurched out of sight and was gone ..... I was sure I hit him .... I waited a couple minutes ... then walked out to the spot .... pretty good red spray ..... I had to look around but quickly found the trail ...... down the hill .... through the thick pines... down to the creek and across ...now I am worried as its just a red spray every so far like Bloody nose ..... I am on the radio for back up ..... NO way do I want to serve a no knock warrant out here ... already I am 250-275 yards from the impact site and 400 yards from my blind ....... I AM ACUTLLY WORRIED AT THIS POINT THAT THE BOAR IS WOUNDED AND WAITING FOR ME ...... I CAN HEAR THE PIG GRIUNTING SOUNDS FROM ALL AROUND ME .... AND THE SNOW IS COMING DOWN .... CRAP I AM WEARING THE BLIND BOOTS NOT MY GOOD HUNTING BOOTS ... slipping all over and neatly going down in 3' of snow with 1/2 inch of new fluffy powder on top ..... finally the guide shows up pulling the sled ..... we trudge on for another 100-150 yards --- up and through the trees and 4' of snow .... finally we find him ... he rammed a middle sized poplar tree and broke it lying there dead............. he must have hit it at high sped as it just splintered and partially went down ......... we gutted him to save weight and rest .....
it took us 40 minutes to haul out .......... he was about 275 a little thicker than the other but wow ... worked for this one .....

Great job Spartan, I wish I could have joined you. Once I'm able to walk without my cane I'm sure I'll be getting the guides number and going for a hunt. I do believe I'll wait for a little warmer weather though. It's too cold for this Fla/GA boy right now. :bolt: :paper:

Where did you hunt?
We have reservations in Oklahoma in March. Really looking forward to it.

Larry you can have both.... pm mw with a email and I will forward a picture and by the time you get home .... I'll have the meat.

I like the butcher up there..... his breakfast sausage is extraordinary .... the picnic hams are smoked to perfection ..... I also get roast and chops ... everything else goes to sausage.
The sausage is in 1# tubes... we use it for spaghetti sauce, tacos, meat loaf ... almost anything you could ground beef ..... the seasoning is just great

Sounds great! Kill the pigs! Miss hog hunting in Texas. Any time, day or night, from a helicopter if you have one!
