Coyotes this year

Postby atomic41 on Sun Feb 15, 2015 11:19 am

Has anyone had any luck hunting coyotes this year? I've gone out twice and it was too windy so I haven't even seen one yet. I went today and conditions were great early morning then the wind picked up big time.

So how about it, anyone have any luck?

I had one larger than a full grown black lab bust out of a slough about 40 feet in front of me and take off at a full run while pheasant hunting around Christmas... after figuring out it wasn't his dog or a wolf it was beyond the range at which the firearm I was carrying would have been effective so it lived to see another day. I haven't tried calling any in yet but we've heard them at night at both in-laws farms down in the SW corner of the state where they continue to create a nuisance for the livestock in the area.

So you guys are seeing and hearing them. I'm seeing lots of tracks but just haven't been out in the right conditions yet to call one in.

Farmerj, do you think it's mange?

Pretty sure its road rash. Last trip up from Memphis, bet you there were 8-10 roadkill. And that's surprising to see that many coyote like that.

Been out once, tons of tracks but the foxpro couldn't reel any in for me.

I've picked off 4 since Thanksgiving. Three young ones right behind my house and one called in near a hog barn.
Four of my favorite sets are by "dead boxes" near hog barns.

Yuppiejr, where about in SW MN? I'm about half way between Fairmont and Worthington. We have plenty of yotes down here.

I'm using an electronic caller made by Icotec. I know you're looking for a mouth call but these are decent for the money. It's like Foxpro but cheaper.
