Could have shot 3-4 meat deer, but when it's 70 out, no reason to do that...

I shot a fugly fork horn around 10 AM. The body was decent at around 170# but the antlers were short and nob by. It wasn't what I would normally shoot but I am still sick and my wife is even worse so I took him so I could go home and take care of her. I also have a bonus tag I can use behind the house so I should get a bit more meat.

Watched a doe wander around for awhile. About an hour later a 6 point came along following her trail. It was too hot too shoot anything.

Six pointer was sighted yesterday but he was too smart to give anybody in our hunting party a chance. This buck wondered out near my stand this morning

While we are on the subject, does anyone carry their edc pistol while hunting?

The issue with that is you are carrying a non-legal firearm for deer season.

So it would be game laws that you'd run afoul of.

Well that was easy. Walked about 40 yards to the ground blind from my back door about 5PM on Saturday. By 6PM there were 11 deer milling around within range. Pick the biggest body just before dark and boom. No trophy, but a good eater. Sad rack for a fully mature buck, good one to remove from breeding stock. .300 Blackout pistol performed great. The Barnes Vor-TX ammo is phenomenal. Bullet was fully expanded before entering the body cavity, absolutely destroyed both lungs and made about a quarter sized hole going out.

Not true - DNR changed the rules a while back. Anything centerfire and over .220 caliber is now a legal cartridge -- and firearms carried under a permit are exempted from DNR regulation.

See pages 23 (carrying a handgun) and 60 (legal big game cartridges) in the regs.: http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/rlp/regula ... 6&view=fit

Doesn't necessarily mean .25 ACP is a good idea as a deer round though.

This is what I was thinking. Legally I see no issues with it. I'm just wondering if anyone else thinks it's worth while or not.

Don't actually need a permit to carry for a legal big game handgun you're carrying while hunting...

Are you talking about shooting a deer with it or for personal protection?

I can't see any personal defense situation where a pistol under my coat would be preferable to the rifle in my hands.
