That sounds different!

I’ve heard from friends they hunt moose with hounds by driving them as well.

So many hunts, so little time and money.

They do use dogs but it is not so much driven. More on that later when I have more time to write.

So my brother in-law (host)’s 16 year old, retired, long haired dauschund who they knew was getting to the end had a seizure yesterday morning and after the vet came it was decided it was time so unfortunately had to help him bury his hunting buddy yesterday evening. That may bring the hunting portion of my trip to a close.

Not an enjoyable part of the hunting tradition but as any dog owner knows it is part of the pact. You get all of them, their full heart, love, and devotion, but only for a short time. While not what I had in mind for the trip, it was peaceful, painless, and as good as it could be for dog and hunter.

RIP Pluto.

Got to shoot a 6.5 Swede at a shooting range in Sweden today. It was live fire at a screen simulation of hunting situations. Deer, moose, and boar, all running. Of course they don’t call it a 6.5 Swede in Sweden.

So they seem to use dogs that can track and trail the game but are not fast enough to chase it. It puts light pressure on the game and keeps it moving in circles. This allows hunters to possession themselves where the game might walk past them.

For moose in the northern part of Sweden they have another kind of dog, not sure of the breed but looks husky like to me but black. As I understand it from my brother in law, the dog trails the moose and when it beds down it barks, if the animal bumps, it follows and then try’s again, once the moose starts ignoring the dog the barking intensifies and the hunter begins his stalk.
