Hunting rufle trigger weight

Looking for opinions on trigger settings for a hunting rifle. Current settings are way to light , so need to adjust. Tikka T3 hunter in 308.

I like 3 to 3.5

How are you hunting? Winter with gloves? Walking thru brush? From a stand? Varmints from a benchrest? It would all matter.

For me 4 to 7 # depending upon the type of hunt.

Crisp, clean break trigger whatever the weight.

Depends on what weather you will be using it in, what game you are hunting, style of hunting, and cartridge being used along with personal preferences.

For big game, warm conditions I like 3.5-5# crisp.

For cold conditions with gloves, I tend to want increased firing pin impact on the primer, so the trigger is heavier. With gloves I don’t notice the crispness as much, so although I want it crisp, a bit of mushiness isn’t a deal breaker.

For heated blinds or prairie dogs, 1.5-3# match style triggers.

Dangerous game rifles 5-7# due to recoil. (Light triggers can be a bit touchy at that recoil level… doubling is not pleasant.)

This os primarily heated blind deer rifle. I am tempted to buy a trigger scale to measure what my Remington trigger is and duplicate it. Barring that I think 3.5 sounds right. The Tikka trigger breaks nicely....the Remington not as nice....

Don't do anything without a trigger scale. The Lyman on is good for about $70. Measures to 12 #.

On a Fall hunting rifle "I" like 2.5 pounds.

On a Varmint rifle "I" like 1 pound or less and crisp.

On my 50BMG Target rifle "I" like 12 ounces and crisp with NO safety - the safety is an open bolt.

For everyone else I would recommend 3 pound minimum unless you have extensive practice with lighter trigger pulls.

Bought the rifle from a member on this board a while ago and could not get used to the very light trigger. Gave it a bunch of seasons and practice, but it is too light. I don't have a gage, so I can only guess it's sub 1#. Everything else I own is m7ch heavier, so it's hard to adjust for just that one rifle.

If you don't have a trigger weight scale to measure the pull weight, why are you concerned about the number? Trigger pull is a personal preference. Just pull the action out of the stock and adjust it to where it feels right to you.

Tikka triggers are easy enough to adjust. Just turn the set screw in until the pull feels right.

I set mine to 2 1/2 lbs.

I use a special gauge that’s highly technical and takes years of training under a watchful and skilled instructor before you’re allowed to use it alone.

Quick, overdue update. Ahlmans made the adjustment and replaced the cracked plastic bolt shroud with an aftermarket aluminum piece. 3.5 lbs does feel correct.
