A couple thoughts:

1) The Primers are the signifigant contributor to airborne lead which is what the ventilators are for.
2) Often the shooting schools have the frangible requirements because of their curicullum or volume of fire. Shoot house? Yeah, I'll take frangible and avoid over penetration eissues (and STILL plan the structure to contain them)

As I stated earlier, " Thank you for your comments gentlemen. " This is part of the research----asking shooters what shooters want in a range. It has absolutely nothing to do with "THE LEFT", so you can put down the paranoia force fields. :P :P We are not under attack, but thank you for your concerns-----they are important. 8-)

Ooooh, well I can understand lead-free if you're going to turn it into a Hooters style restaurant with young waiters and food.

I do hope you are misspelling waitresses here.

Sam, it needs an attached ice cream parlor, Dairy products have been shown to help reduce the absorption rate of lead, and it'd be nice to be able to do some shooting with some young people and then go for ice cream.

The correct "progressive" term is waitperson or waitstaff.

Waitperson or waitstaff is only progressive in that it lacks a gender modifier. When the waitresses are all women, that is irrelevant and it is not unenlightened to call them waitresses.

"Traditionally, a male waiting tables is called a "waiter" and a female a "waitress" with the gender-neutral version being a "server".[2] Other gender-neutral versions include using "waiter" indiscriminately for males and females, "waitperson",[3] or the Americanism "waitron", which was coined in the 1980s.[4]"

Learn something new each day... Could explain some of the looks I've got calling girls waiters. defiantly not calling them something stupider sounding though.

I have a LOT of experience with frangible ammo. It's great for using in a shoot house (in, say, an AR), but the bullets are typically lighter (the heaviest I could find back in the day was 40gr.) and they load up your barrel a little. We always ran a brush down the bore after using them, and you'd see a little of that light brown crud come out.

You might not need as much backstop, but since you couldn't say that no one would ever load up a gun with lead ammo, you couldn't rely on that, so you'd have to have enough backstop to stop everything anyway.

I took two carbine courses at Gunsite (223 and 556), and we had to bring something like 200 rounds of frangible to each class, in addition to the case or so of "regular." This was for when we were in the shoot houses only. Everywhere else we could shoot lead.

The owners of the "future range" have asked if I would put out a preview of their website on the forum. Ideas and suggestions are always appreciated. http://www.valleyriceoutfitters.com

I am an impatient kinda guy. The website loads extremely slow. Even the links within.

It looks pleasing to the eye, however they need to dumb down the programming language a bit. The other thing they need to consider is how will the site run on a mobile phone platform such as Droid/Safari/BlackBerry/RIM? Because the worlds moving to wireless.

I happened to be on the phone with the guy I normally ask chemistry questions (he does environmental chemical degradation studies for a living). His comment was that metallic lead is actually not that dangerous (unless its moving 2,000 feet per second). It is lead oxide (what was actually in lead-based paints) that is the real problem. You can ingest metallic lead without to much concern.

The birds that they were finding high lead in, were ingesting lead pellets, which would get ground up against the rocks they also ingested. The increased surface area was enough that the lead reacted with the hydrochloric acid of the gut to produce lead chloride, in sufficient amounts to show up. Humans, on the other hand would pass it.

I would just have them outlaw lead cast bullets. FMJ , plated, and JHP only.

That plus a GOOD ventilation system (I still haven't seen one in the metro that I am comfortable with, burnsville is meh, Bills on a weekend is like taking up a cigarette habit).

I'm sick and tired of blowing black snot after shooting in the winter.

If they did this, had rentals, I would take my business there in a heartbeat.
