In that same bay during a mini 3-gun there was a 90 round rifle stage. Tyler ran it first with my rifle, then my oldest son Nathan, then I was up again using the same rifle. The smoke was already coming off of the handguard when I stepped to the line, by the time I was done the handguard was almost too hot to touch. 90 rounds in under 40 seconds was pegging the fun meter though.

I must have missed that one. :( Doesn't sound familiar at all. Must've been back when ammo was a little cheaper, too.
Yeah, but I shoot with THIS hand.

Just show up and register on site.

The last 3-gun I went to was early December and had about the same weather conditions. If you dress for accordingly it won't bother you. If you can keep your feet, head and hands warm you'll be GTG. I do a base layer with a good set of thermals and wool over poly-propylene socks. Wear a good set of boots, they may be a little slower to run in, but personally I go to have fun, not to have numb toes all day. Lower torso: I just wear compression thermals, and loose thermals under my regular pants. Upper torso: Compression thermals and loose thermals, with a warm jacket that I take off when it's my turn to shoot. You don't want to be so bundled up you can't get to your gear.

Couple other things that may help. Those cheap little shake up disposable hand warmers are your friend, you would be amazed at what a couple in your pockets can do to keep your core temp up. Another tip I got from Payne that works great is to use one of those hand-warmer/muff deals that strap around your waist to help keep your hands warm. When your not shooting, you should also help with pasting and re-setting targets, this will keep you moving and warm as well.

Hope to see you there.

Register on sight. $25.00

Wear what you would normally wear when spending time outdoors at this time of year. Layers are preferred. I take my jackets off when I am shooting so I wear UnderArmor Cold Gear as a base, then a shirt over that. Boots that have some sort of "grip" are nice to have even though there normally isn't a lot of running requried at this time of year just because of the unkown footing.

Keeps your head, hands, and feet warm and you should be fine.

While other shooters are going through the course of fire you will be asked to assist in resetting steel targets, and pasting paper targets, so you will stay somewhat warm just by movement. I don't know what the forecast for the weather is, but having some of those chemical heat packs in several pockets is always a good idea.

That's funny as hell  If our advice sounds similar it's cause that's what Payne advised me to do at the match in December.....and it works, I just beat him to posting it. Now if I can somehow figure out how quicker on the board can translate to quicker on the gun.

Depending on if they cleared the snow of the range in time it might be super muddy guys, so bring boots and kneepads if you want them.

Some guys wear knee pads just to reduce the chance of kneeling on a rock or something that could cause discomfort and disrupt their ability to concentrate.

As far as the loaner AR goes I would, but I’ve already promised my 16” carbine to someone else. My other AR is set up for long range, has too much scope and a 1lb trigger, I wouldn’t feel comfortable loaning that one out for 3-gun.

Tazdevil,

If you can get on my squad, we will work something out for the rifle. You will be required to help pay the ammo cost though :(

The knee pads are so you can do the Navy Seal-Special Forces-Tactical Operator-Mall Ninja, knee slides across the range. They also look pretty cool. As we all know, if you can't shoot for crap you better look ATAS (all tactical and sh$t). 8-)

Seriously, they do work out well if you are forced to shoot from the kneeling position.

3 gun is the only time that you will have an excuse to use most of your tactical crap, so you might as well go balls out. :D

I don't mind rocks and stuff, I just hate the feeling of wet mud soaking through the knees of my pants, it's extremely distracting for me, and I need all the damn focus I can get. :?

Neither the stages Payne or I designed will require kneeling or prone.

Also, I just got one of the new JP silent captured springs in the mail today. I will bring it if anyone wants to check it out.

If anyone has a spare blade tec or bungee topped AR mag pouch I could borrow, I'd appreciate it.

I can always stuff two AR mags in my left rear jeans pocket if I can't track one down, but I'm sick and tired of my velcro flap pouches and am not gonna bring them.

No problems with that, I'd even give you more for "renting" the right to borrow it. But now I need to go buy all the tactical wear, and since my beretta's (2mags 15rd each-enough?) the only one with a holster (other than my CCW, not bringing that thing for this), I'll be the idiot with the mossberg uber-home-defense style pump, and the beretta on the hip-hmm, maybe thigh. Guess that'll be a shopping trip tomorrow, and sans wifey. :cogitating:

Taz, I've got a spare rifle I could bring if you need. It's a heavy barrel A2 clone, however, so it's a bit of a heavy mother.

It's always run well, and is quite accurate. I've got plenty of mags.

Let me know.
