Biathlon...I"m screwed

Penalty lap for every miss... I can't afford to miss.

These rifles sound like air guns, they use concentric peep sights. We shoot everything prone, with the skis on.

I'm afraid I won't be able to get up again...

So, bitter sweet epic fail. When they said "novice" race, they meant novice shooter who didn't have to carry the gun, and who only needed to shoot prone.

The level of xcountry was advanced, and I can't ski worth ****. TONS of hills and chutes. I could only handle one lap with out puking.

HOWEVER, I WAS able to stumble into the shooting pit, with my skiis on, and smoke 5 for 5 in about 10 seconds breathing like I was gonna die. So I'm kinda pumped about that.

Moral of the story is... Learn how to x country ski before you try this.

Oh. And my wife kicked my ass something terrible. Two clean runs, and she has never shot a 22 before.

Would it work better the other way around? I'm happy in a 1.5-3 hour ski race, but I'm a just a plinker with 22LR. Biathlon looks like loads of fun, but the training programs look like they're geared to pre-olympic (J0-J6 kids), not adult citizen racers. Is there a good club near the metro to learn olympic-stance offhand and prone, 50m/yd with peep sights? (I think CMP 3-position is probably close enough).

You should get a hold of the group who put on the race, they seemed very interested in getting people involved. As far as shooting, PM HammAR, as he has a line on a .22 league and instruction he is setting up at oakdale. I believe mngunsite has the thread.

Biathlon...I"m screwed

Something that occurred to me many years ago when I was an active citizen racer, and more recently as a new member of OGC....the Lake Elmo Park Reserve(Washington County Park) has a good, and recently upgraded the ski trail network, and (I believe) shares a property border with the gun club....
Something for a promoter type of guy(which I'm not) to think about.

I really really like this idea. Builds another tie between the club and the surrounding community and it's something I've always wanted to try.

I've been kicking the idea around more since I recently joined OGC, and you posted about biathlon. LEPR is Wash Cty's flagship park. They just added a lighted ski trail about 1/2 mile N of the gun club. It would be good pub for the park. The gun club could set up a noob orientation for 1st time shooters. Good community relations for the gun club, and a unique and rare setup needed for the biathlon venues. If you wish to do so, run it by the promoter of the event you did.
