OGC Membership - help!

Postby Beelzebubba on Mon Jul 09, 2012 1:23 pm

Hello all,

I believe there are some OGC members, and even some staff/admin on this forum. I have been on the waiting list for some time, and I was scheduled to attend an orientation class earlier this year. I unfortunately had to cancel last minute due to some personal family conflicts. I have since received a few emails about other new member orientation dates, but every time I reply I receive no response. In fact, once I received a response stating if I am
receiving this response, my email was "likely flagged as spam" so send it again to another address. Still no response. I sent an email to an address on the OGC site, but no response - after about two weeks now, so I can only assume it was flagged as spam again. I must say, I have never had this kind of problem with my email getting caught up in spam filters! I certainly don't believe there is anything going on here other than some bad spam filtering, but I have been wanting to join for quite some time, so I have been quite frustrated that after waiting so long, it's July of 2012 and I'm still not a member! No animosity at all towards OGC, in fact it's frustration because I WANT to be a member of OGC! Now I'm worried I may be off the wait list, and another two years will pass and I still won't be a member.

BTW - I work in IT, have been a sysadmin for over 20 years, so if I can be of some assistance to OGC and any email issues, I'd be happy to volunteer. If I'm a member that is ;)

Any OGC members or staff/admin that can help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Thanks! Will do! Do you have any suggestions for public outdoor pistol/rifle ranges in the Minneapolis area (I don't mind driving 30 miles or so) that are open to the public until I get this sorted? Having used a concrete nail gun (uses a .22 to fire the nail in - it didn't take long for MPLS LE to arrive - I now call first - so no shooting ANYTHING in MPLS proper, that's for sure!) I have a couple days off and a need to fire off a few hundred rounds through a couple new Glocks I acquired recently. Nothing against Bill's (not publicly) but I far prefer outdoor shooting unless it's the dead of winter.

Thanks again, stratawhoveryouare!

I should also mention that if anyone is a member at a club the the MPLS area, and wants to try out a couple of new Gen 4 Glocks, maybe a an LC9 and a couple other handguns, let me know, I'd be happy to meet up. I am also, as is obvious, looking for a gun club to join, so sponsorship wouldn't be frowned upon. I do need a place that allows pistols and rifles, but also trap for a team I coach a few months every year.

Thanks!

Thanks - I'll send it using my personal email as well as my work email. Neither of which should be flagged, but I'll use them both to be safe. Stopping myself from talking about spam, filtering, good/bad IT practices and how it could impact an organization.... :ugeek:

Thanks again

If your looking for a place on tuesday, why not drive out to Hutchinson.

Go to Little Crow gun shop and get a year long membership for Goper Camp Fire, its only 35 bucks. I know its a bit further than you ask for but, hell, I drive that far just to get sushi in the citys.

Let me know as I plan to head out to do some shooting tomorrow anyway

Sounds like a plan. I had today off due to travel, and tomorrow is tentative. I'll see what's going on at the office and hopefully spend the day at the range instead. :D

Funny, exact opposite here. I drive less than two miles for the best sashimi $ can buy and I can't find a decent place to shoot without driving at least a half hour (and I've hunted for good sushi in NY, bay area... everywhere other than Japan) and nothing beats what can be purchased literally less than two miles from me. I make my own, so I'm just buying the sashimi, but it's the best you can get. There was an article in the Village Voice a couple years back where they were searching for the best hamachi they could find, and they had to go "all the way to the middle of nowhere - Minneapolis" to find extremely high quality, untreated, fresh hamachi and sashimi in general. Now if I could find a local place to hunt my own sashimi... Hmmm.

I digress... me thinks this may work out well. I don't mind driving a little extra for some good outdoor shooting at all! I'll try and skip out of the office tomorrow, and spend the day at a range or two. I just returned from "The South" where I was able to purchase 100 round bulk packs of Federal 115gr. JHP for under $20 each! Not bad! Ready to send a few hundred down range, for sure. Funny how one can purchase quantities of ammunition in places like Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia... cheaper than here, made by a manufacturer right in our backyard! One thing about the south - DO NOT go messin' with their guns or access to ammunition! Gun racks on the "the truck" with the kids piled in the back isn't some unsubstantiated stereotype

I love "the south" in so many ways.

I'll PM you with some personal info so you can contact me if it's a "go'.

Thanks,
-B

Coastal Seafoods - they have two locations in the twin cities. They are one of the largest fresh fish suppliers in the Midwest (I believe), so you can get the same quality, swimming in the ocean yesterday fish that the best restaurants get. They also refuse to treat their tuna, like everyone else does. That's one of the things that makes them uniquie. It isn't as pretty and pink as you may see elsewhere, it's because it's the "real deal". Most places you could buy their tuna, toss it in your trunk in July, drive around with it for a week and when you took it out it would look the same. Just ain't right I tells ya!

I highly recommend the Bluefin when it's in season and the organic, farm raised salmon for making sushi/sashimi.

This is strictly a buy it and make it yourself operation. The storefront seems more of a side business (busy as it may be) to their primary business of importing and selling for restaurants. The staff can be very helpful as well.

Forgot to mention, if you check them out, pick some of the real wasabi up, you'll never go back to that green horseradish crap they give you in restaurants! As far as I know, they are the only place in town that sells it. Only problem is, if you like seafood as I do, you will never be able to buy it anywhere else again! You've been warned!
