A few years ago I was at a range ( I think in PA but not sure) where the rangemaster modified the Clear and make Safe procedure. His reason was too many guns went Bang with the gamers pull the trigger procedure. His procedure as follows:

Command: If shooter is finished clear and make safe.

1. Remove magazine.

2. Open cylinder or slide.

3. Remove any remaining cartridges.

4. Show clear.

5. Insert empty chamber indicator.

6. Holster, bag or box gun as appropriate.

I am not a gun gamer so I have no idea where these so-called safety procedures came from. Most of them appear to nonsense from empty gun
rules lawyers.

But to keep on topic when make up and post the rules and procedures please consider who this match is intended for and tailor the rules for them.
Then clearly post and publish all rules and procedures.

DO NOT MERELY REFER TO SOME GUNGAMER ASSOCIATION FOR RULESLAWYERING.

source of "so-called safety procedures" ... USPSA = U.S. division of IPSC ... founded by Col. Jeff Cooper ... RIP! ... godfather of the "Modern Technique"!

USPSA RO's are trained/certified by NROI (National Range Officers Institute) Range Masters (not to be confused with non-certified "masters" otherwise claiming such a title  )

Bear in mind, IDPA (3rd most popular pistol shooting sport in the world) and SASS (1st most popular shooting sport in the world) were both created by former IPSC/USPSA members ... at which, there's a lotta overlap/sharing, of rules! ;)

Personal experience with Grandpa's, Uncles, 'er some other "dude" claiming to be some sorta "master", not withstanding! Image

As always, my "orientation" and "RO cheat sheet" are merely "pocket references" ... current printed rulebooks always trump 'em! ;)

Again, I ain't Greg ... but havin' shot a couple matches, myself, I'd HIGHLY recommend, if ya choose NOT to follow basic USPSA-style rules ... and otherwise opt fer ... well ... whatever! ... 1. plan NOT to attend ... 2. plan to be sent on yer way, well 'fore the end of the match! :?

I've already been in contact with Greg. Seems like a stand-up kinda guy. The "problem" I'm having is deciding which class to shoot. I have 5 different guns to choose from: S&W M&P Pro series in 9mm, S&W M&P standard in 9mm, Sig Sauer P226 in .40, Sig Sauer MK 25 (9mm) and a Springfield 5.25 "Competition" in .45. For the life of me (and I'm a reasonably smart/educated guy) I cant figure out how each pistol effects which class I shoot in? I think I'm phrasing that correctly....

Just show up with what you want to shoot or shoot best, and they'll figure it out for you. If you want to be most competitive in my opinion: M&P pro in 9 for Production, P226 for Limited, or XD for Limited-10.

So I realize this is kind of drifting from the original OP, but If i were to shoot my riger super redhawk for uspsa what class would that be? Like I said before, I plan on using my SR9C. I just figure my .44 is fun to shoot so I would most likely try it once if it is allowed.

Revolver(go figure). Practice reloading! The competitive guys will be running moon clips, but that shouldn't stop you from bringing what you like - just figure out how you're going to get it done ahead of time.

USPSA has a "Revolver" division (only 6rd may be fired between reloads) ... IIRC, IDPA has two of 'em! ... one of which, IIRC, is "no moon clips" ... but, ya'd still wanna be fairly proficient with speed-loaders! In IDPA, where no string can be more than 18rd, that's not a big deal!

In USPSA, it's possible to have a course up to 32rd ... ya'd need at least 6 speedloaders ... at least 5 on yer belt ... and if ya drop one, yer ****ed!

If ya've got at least 6 speedloaders, and a way to carry 5 of 'em on yer belt, and yer not using full-power .44 loads, I'd guess it'd be ok ... best to check with Greg!

Otherwise, if they're full power loads, if there's any steel, they may have concerns regarding the longevity of those targets ... and/or, potential "splash" ... particularly with jacketed bullets?! :?

Ahh. See that's more what I was concerned about, just the power factor. I guess i was asking more in general, not just the wounded warrior match. But the sixth is my weekend off from work. I need to by some mag pouches bad!!! Then I can actually start shooting matches.

Well, I managed to get the day off so I'm planning on being there. I'm very new to USPSA and have only shot locally. This should be interesting.
