Glad to hear your going to make it out Brian! I am no longer in MN and wont be making it. You can start posting here, also on the loaner/borrow forum, you can also friend the MN 3gun group on Facebook.

Even if shooter115 cant make it you will still do well showing up at the shoot with ammo (100-150 round of each: 223 (no steel core ammo!), 12ga (trap loads) , and pistol ammo). Lots of guys bring spare guns and are always excited to show them off/loan them out.

My first 3gun shoot I had a 20"AR with 3-9power hunting optic, a 3.8" 9mm and an 870. I spent a ton of time reloading the shotgun at that first event but I learned the safety rules and had a blast, i have been hooked ever since!

If I make it to this match it'll be my first MN 3 Gun, how does this differ from DMG? I read the rules and didn't see any magazine restrictions for rifle or pistol.

What division do you think you will be shooting under?

DMG is like IDPA where there are mag restrictions... use of cover... engaging targets in a specific order and such. With 3 gun you will load up to weapon capacity. Not worry about cover. Although no beta mags for rifles but the 60 rounders or the 18 round extentions are cool. Shotgun is 9 in the gun to start unless otherwise directed. If your shotgun can't hold 9 thats ok. You'll just be reloading more often.... try to carry at least 24 extra shotgun shells on your person. All the guys are very helpfull and will answer any questions you may have. You will customize your gear as you gain more experience. Yes it will strain your budget but it's worth every penny you will spend. So come out and have some fun....

This except you can use a Beta if you want. Just not many courses of fire where you need/want one. I've seen Payne use his once at the MN matches.

30 rounds of rifle may complete the stage. A back pocket works fine for an extra mag.

Buy, beg, or borrow shell carriers. They are a must.

Shouldn't need more than one rifle mag holder unless you are shooting heavy metal. Highly unlikely you will see a COF that would need more than 60 rounds. If there is just shove an extra in you back pocket. I already offered up my extra shell caddies, but if you ask nicely I'm sure someone will help you out ;)

I have extra AR mags... if my brain is working I'll throw them in my bag... no extra shotgun shell holders tho.... I've seen guys load from a pocket... I've seen guys put a shell in backwards to.... thats always fun.... Ron Westberg at unholstered.com has them... 4 of the 6 rounders should serve you well...

I wear a super tactical nylon freebie fanny pack and just empty a box of shells in it (never thought I'd find an application for that thing).
Men may argue forever on what wins their wars, and welter in cons and pros, and seek for the answer at history's doors, but the man with the rifle knows.

3 gun match Dec 1, 2012

I have some clay loads laying around, but I am curious if they will work for the shotgun portions of the course.

Thanks.

7 1/2 or smaller, do not need anything special, if you are useing a semi auto just make sure they will function at speed

I will second the notion of not watching but doing, let me know of equipment needs also

Movement will be limited due to mn weather conditions, that does not mean the shots will be easy!

Know your rifle zeros from point blank to 200 yards

You will be shooting all three guns from the two stages i've designed

Pistols will start loaded and holstered

I have never shot out to 200 yards and probably using a rifle that isn't mine. This will be interesting, beginners luck here we go!

Any restriction on use of Serpa holsters? I can borrow one of those from a friend, but have read a lot of ND complaints about them.

My other option is my IWB Cross Breed or a 1 size too small but barely works uncle mike's fabric holster with a snap retainer.

(not trying to start a Serpa debate - just a yes or no would be appreciated)

Serpa is just fine. In fact it's a better choice than many just cause it offers possitive retention.
