Glock Armorer Services at GSSF This Weekend?

Postby cmj685 on Fri Jul 25, 2008 10:05 am

Since this will be my very first GSSF match, I am not sure what services the glock armorers might provide. For example, I have a new front fiber optic sight and new mag release for my new G34 sitting and waiting my pick up. Would they be willing to do something like that, or is it more routine maintenance? Can some of you experienced guys give me a quick heads up as I will be shooting tomorrow and if they would put in the sight and mag release I will need to pick them up today!

Also, I am still confused about how the shooting actually goes. Can you just show up anytime you want Saturday and/or Sunday and shoot? Or ....? There has never been any instructions except that registration starts at 8:30 and shooting at 9. But if I am pre-registered can I come anytime and get in to the shooting rotation? Thanks!

Where and when is the GSSF Match?

If there is an armorer there they will likely replace your mag catch for free - and put that front sight on for you for nothing - it is just a nut and a drop of locktite....3/16" Wrench is all that it takes and a tube of blue locktite. (Use a micro nut-driver)

Have the sight replaced AFTER you shoot the match - Locktite takes 24 hours to cure and you can shoot the sight off and ruin your whole day.

All the instructions are online at http://gssfonline.com/hot_topics/GSSF%2 ... Simple.pdf The website works best with Internet Explorer.

Be careful to follow their rules and distribute your sheets to all the stages first. GSSF is all about accuracy, miss a target and 10 seconds gets added, vs 2.5 in IDPA so get your hits. If you use the G34 it must be in the competition class and be sure whoever you go with enters the drawing for bringing a new shooter, free Glock is the prize! Your G19 is good for amateur or competition. Plate practice is highly recommended.

Also, experienced Glockers tend to prefer Sunday, always less busy. That way you could attend the IDPA Postal Match and see how you compare to 1,500 shooters from around the world<g>

You asked about the armorer services and they may do it, depending on their inclination and the number of folks waiting. If you want to use the G34 for IDPA you will not want to change out the mag release, G34's already come with an extended mag release and a release other than Glock's original makes it illegal for IDPA use.

+1 on the above. The armorers are there more for maint. & repairs than anything else. Sunday definately has less traffic. With the 34 & 19, you can shoot in two different categories. We're fortunate it's close. I've talked to folks at some of the matches who have travelled here from Indiana, Michigan, etc. for this competition.

To answer Pinnacle's question, the GSSF Match is at Oakdale this Saturday and Sunday.
Mike, I have no idea what services the on site armorer will offer but I'm sure I can introduce you to a couple of certified armorers from GT that will be there. I'm almost positive they'll do it for you for the price of a diet coke. Even though you're pre-registered you still have to sign in to be squadded, get your scoresheets and put into the rotation. They'll limit the number of people that can shoot Saturday. Being pre registered saves some time in filling out paperwork and fifteen bucks but thats about it.

Mike did you get all the work done you wanted? I saw you were signed in before they even allowed shooting this morning, how did you do?

Eric,
Yes, I looked around for you and others, but I was pretty much all by my lonesome there today! Got there about 8:25 AM, and was out of there by 10:00 AM. Glad I didn't see anyone I knew with the way I shot! Wouldn't have wanted anyone else to see it :o ! But yes, the armorer was more than kind and did my work in about 5 minutes, so that was great! How about you? Hopefully you shot better than I did!

I made it at about 11:30, after a nice leisurely breakfast. Ran into and ended up shooting with Team Carver Mounts. I shot the plates reasonably well but wasn't too impressive on the other two. I was told by a couple master shooters that I wasn't half bad for it being the first time I'd even seen the courses. Total with penalties I shot about 155, I had two complete misses on 5 to Glock and one on the plates. Thanks to you I got a second entry into the first time shooters raffle which is the only way I'm winning anything this time out but I think I'll be making a couple trips with the Carver Mounts guys next year, with the G17 I badly need to pick up.

Hey...we did pretty well then on the extra entries into the First Time Shooters raffle 'cuz I got a second one for bringing you :D !

I shot similarly, although I don't exactly know how to score it. I missed two of the plates on the third run. Don't know what happened...they were going down one after another after another each run and then all of a sudden it was like I was shooting blanks at those two! I also missed twice on the long 5 to Glock targets. I have noticed that the longer shots with the G19 have consistently been erratic for me, which I think is clearly a technique issue and I mean to address it beginning presently. My long targets on the 5 to Glock looked like I used a shotgun--all over the target (and sometimes not all over the target)! How was the crowd at 11:30? And who is Team Carver Mounts? How do you know all these people? And as for that G17--if I see it before you, I will definitely have it before you get to it!

get out your scoresheets and a calculator, starting with 5 to Glock add your three times, plus 1 for each you hit in the C column plus 3 for each in the D and plus 10 for each that didn't hit the paper. and another 10 if you had procurals (Too many rounds in the fired, moving during the course, starting from an illegal position.) Same for Glock M. Plates is total time plus 10 for each plate you left standing. Add all those up and you get your score.

Team Caver Mounts is one of the top Glock shooting teams in the country. It's Butch G17 from here, his son and a few other shooters from MN and WI that shoot GSSF all over the country, at any given time the entire team has more free gun certificates than they know what to do with. I've known them for a couple years on GlockTalk but met most of them for the first time yesterday.

At 11:30 it was fairly slow, we never had to wait more than 3 or 4 minutes to shoot and they weren't running all the set ups they had, one 5 to Glock and one Glock M weren't being used. I had gun #162 so it must have been a little busy in the morning.

Now carry the six, and multiply by the square root of the third angle to left of the isoceles triangle formed by your arms and chest in round three, and add the number of days until Jupiter is in line with Venus............

Good buddy and I went for our first match. Neither of us had ever seen the courses let alone run them. Top it off we hadn't practiced in about a month as our shooting range got whacked by a tornado.

First off, everybody we met was friendly and extremely helpful. All the range officers were great. The facility is very nice and the weather was perfect. The Glock personnel were great fun.

I shot Civ and Comp with my 19. First run was awful as I learned the (apparently) age old lesson of slower hits are way better than faster misses.

We arrived around 0900 Saturday and were done by 1200h. Thought I was settled down and doing pretty good running a six for six plate string in 6.14 or so....until I read about some 3 second runs on GlockTalk!!! Total for comp was 118. Don't even ask about my civ score. The light didn't come on until I was home looking at the score sheets. I can see where I've got lots to learn. As my buddy said, "We were tadpoles...out of water!"

Great time and will have to try it again....fingers are crossed for the raffles and new shooter awards...cause clearly I'm not shooting anywhere near the marks for top 10.

Preliminary scores are posted at gssfonline.com. I posted a 155 right about the middle of the pack for civ, I have cmj's score but won't post it without permission. Finals are supposed to be up sometime around labor day, may be sooner may not, and we won't know the prizes until then. Does anybody know where to get the raffle results, I've got two tickets but no idea how to check them.

Hey thanks for the heads up Eric. Let me see here...214...yikes. Gotta' shoot better than that in the future! We'll chalk it up to being the first GSSF meet I ever shot, and having no idea what I was doing. Or...maybe we should chalk it up to missing about 4 targets completely? Whichever! What I like is to set a low bar so that I can surpass it in the future. The problem with that theory is that, with the "Senior" behind my name on the scoresheets, it probably means I am on my way downward in terms of physical ability to shoot! I am finding it very difficult to hit distant targets with my G19. Don't know exactly why but I keep getting absolutely awful scores any time I am shooting over about 30 feet. I think they should let seniors shoot those long targets from a supported position!

cmj, we'll get together and take care of your G19 issues! I shot on Sunday-no waiting, good weather, and things went fine. I found that there's a "first year learning curve" to the Glock match. The next time, folks have an idea of what to expect, and what to practice before the match. As far as the tickets go, I was told that the winner is called the same day (I didn't get a call, darn it!). As far as the gun winners, I believe the winners are posted on the GSSF site with the match results, if I'm remembering correctly.
