9.10.3
A competitor who reacts to a start signal but, for any reason, does not fire a shot or continue the attempt at the course of fire and fails to have an official time recorded on the timing device operated by the Range Officer will be given a zero time and zero score for that course of fire.

Burnsville Practical Pistol Winter League - 2013

When you get to 4 and 5 their importance is almost nonexistent

In order of most effect on time (starting from rookie performance levels):
1 Reloads (noobs can stretch this to 5 sec)
2 Transitions
3 Efficiency and time in and out of positions
4 draws (.5 to 1 sec could be gained)
5 stage breakdown
6 splits
7 top foot speed (acceleration is good though)

This was just over turned as Jerry Miculek was given a reshoot after he broke a firing pin while attempting a course of fire before the first shot was registered.

I would think they would have stopped him due to possible squib, found it to be equipment malfunction which, if I remember correctly should not result in a reshoot. But maybe it is because the RO stopped him? I dunno.

Nope, he tried his entire cylinder. All ROs for the event got together with a rulebook and judged it as never starting the stage.

There is no "over turning" a rule.

5.7.6
Where the handgun has failed after the Start signal, the competitor must not be permitted to reshoot the course of fire or string. This includes the instance where a handgun is declared unserviceable or unsafe during a course of fire or string. However, any unattempted component strings in a Standard Exercise may still be attempted by the affected competi- tor after the handgun has been repaired, and prior to when match results are declared final by the Match Director.

There's more to this story than what we're being told. If he was permitted to reshoot according to the above story, the RO's & MD were completely wrong.

ETA: if this was a USPSA match the above rules apply. If it was an IDPA match...who cares?

Scores sent. One e-mail address had to be removed (it blocked sending all of it), so if you didn't get the results, let me know.
