Gun clubs north of the metro.

Postby Joat on Tue May 12, 2009 8:15 pm

l'm moving in the next month to Fish lake Township and I'm looking for a gun club to join, I do mostly pistol shooting and would also like to have a 200 yard or longer rifle range, My wife wants to start shooting clays. I've found Gopher rifle and revolver club and Isanti county sportsman club, are there any other clubs in the area? What are the facilities like? Are there any openings for membership? What are the annual dues?

There is a nice rifle and trap range just south of Isle. It has rifle shooting stages at 25, 50 and 100 yards. It's about 90 minutes north of the TC, but is very quiet during the week. Also close to Boone's Fine Guns, so it is definitely worth a trip ;)

Isanti County Sportsmen's Club has no waiting for membership. Dues (right now) are $70/year and if you want a fob to access the security gate it is a $30 refundable deposit. The only thing it doesn't have for you is the length on the rifle range. It only goes out to 140 yards. other than that it is a fantastic facility, which you will gather first hand at the pin shoot. :D
If you're reading this, there are better than even odds you are a d-bag.

Gopher Rifle & Revolver Club is primarily a rifleman's club. That's where most of the interest and
participation is. Service Rifle and High Power (standard & long range), Palma, some bench rest &
F-Class, black powder cartridge (quite active), muzzle-loader, Schuetzen and small-bore prone league.

Pistol is getting more active. There is an IPSC league shooting Monday nights, and occaisional
special events like a Steel Challenge or an ICORE revolver shoot. Bowling pin league has revived
and there is a Handgun Practice league too. I don't know what's going on with silhouette. No IDPA.
(I think Twin Cities IDPA is shooting at Beaverbrook this summer).

Shotgun consists of one standard trap house with trap league Weds nights (usually). And a home-built
contraption for "sporting clays".

Many of the leagues and matches are open to the public. If you're not a member, you can check with
the discipline co-ordinator ahead of time and find out if its open to non-members.

I believe that at the moment membership is full. Be aware that GRRC REQUIRES membership in
the NRA - and that WILL be checked or proof required.

Strad, who's the contact for membership? Is there a web site? I'd like to check the place out and maybe join before the pin shoot.

A friend of mine at work is a member of GRRC. He tells me that there is a 3 year wait to join (normally).
Sometimes not as long. Same as Minnetonka Game and Fish Club (where I'm a member) :D ( first year )

MGFC is located 7 miles west of St. Francis They have an active IPSC and IDPA membership Also bullseye
range, trap and skeet, rifle ranges from 20 yard to 400 yds.

affilated with Minnesota Rifle Club

Just to clarify...

Minneapolis Rifle Club is affiliated with Minnetonka Game and Fish Club, not the other way around.
