Action Arms Steel Challenge -> Open to anyone?

Postby Snowgun on Tue Apr 27, 2010 1:18 pm

I saw this while looking for IPSC matches on the Harris/Gopher site:

5/2/2010
Action Arms Steel Challenge
Steve Shimek
0900-1730
http://www.grrc.org/

Is this open for anyone or only the cool kids? 8-)

Sorry cool kids only. I think there is BB gun shoot somewhere the same day. :P

It is open to anyone. 3 stages in the morning then lunch break and then 3 different stages in the afternoon. It's a lot of fun. I think entry fee is $30 which includes lunch.

Anyone can show up, as far as I know.
I plan to be there.
Yeah, but I shoot with THIS hand.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if this was on, say, some sort of "MN shooting events" calender? :?

Then some of us could crash the "cool kids" parties. :D

There is a gate at the range, don't encourage them to put out guards.

How about you putting up it as a test.

Is this like the Gopher Campfire steel shoot or more like an IDPA event. In other words should I even consider going if I've only been to one steel shoot.

It would be very similar, you will see all levels of shooters there. Are you comfortable drawing your gun from the holster under the clock? There is safety tables for handling the gun only and ammo any where else on the range, commands at the firing line are the same.

The steel shoots do have a level of fun and competition, that in my mind the fun weighs a little heavier then competition. The steel challenge I think you will feel the competition side a little more. If that makes sense.

The way it works is, you become one of the cool kids by showing up.

I have not been to one yet, but the guy who runs them will most likely be there Sunday and if you show up you can ask him.

I am comfortable drawing from a holster no faster than I can do it safely. I don't mind finishing last as long as I have fun so I think I'll try to get there.

How many other MNGunTalk members will be there?

This is the first I'm hearing of it, but I have the weekend off and since I missed the last steel shoot I might try to make this. So let me get this straight, roughly $30 for 6 pistol stages at the range in Harris, similar to the hutch steel shoots but a bit more competitive? Sounds good to me. Anyone know if you have to sign up in advance or can I just show up?

Just show up. No problem.

Ron, do you know what the start time may be? There's been a couple of times I've showed up at 9:30ish and they've already started.
Yeah, but I shoot with THIS hand.

Just spoke with Steve S. sign up starts at 9:00am and shooting about 10:00a.m. I would suggest arriving if you can closer to 9:00 because as Keith already mentioned they can be a little lose with the start time. This also gives you a chance to look over the stages and or help set up if not done.
