Delano Sportsmen vs Minnetonka Sportsmen

Postby Joecool on Wed Apr 28, 2010 9:40 am

I currently belong to Delano but recently got the call that my Minnetonka spot opened up. They are both the same time of travel from my house. I was wondering if anyone from Minnetonka Sporsmen's Club could share a good description of what is at the range or even pictures. They don't have a web site.

One thing that seems much better is Minnetonka has hand throw skeet where Delano you can't do any skeet except in leagues.

Actually Delano has Trap, not Skeet. There is a difference; besides why not join both?

Minnetonka does not permit holster work on the range and if they are shooting trap both the pistol and rifle ranges are shut down due to safety concerns. The hours at Mtka. are 9AM to sunset Mon-Sat and noon to sunset on Sunday and yes they have a hand trap range that is located across the road overlooking Whaletail.

Put it this way.....I have witnessed some pretty poor gun handling more than once. ;)

So you can still practice hand trap range anytime basically.

I am talking about the Minnetonka Sportsmen Club in Mound off a 15.

I could do both and I might.

Does not matter the club....members shoot the crap out of anything but the target area.
Pretty hard not center the target up, but no people have wreck stuff.

Poor gun handling?
You have PTC instructors out there with people testing breaching the firing line.
You have PTC instructors having students handling guns behind the firing line.
PTC instructors bragging up their skills and can not hit the broad side of a target at 15yds or so.....I am impressed!
The you have lazy ass member driving in the pistol bay cause they are too lazy to carry their chronograph up to the firing line.

But if you do not like rules.....buy some land and get your own range.

A small group of guys and I are actually working on this, and hope to have the land at least this year. I'm so tired of all the crap that goes on at ranges that I just want my own. Do what I want, when I want, and not worry about what anyone else is doing. If I want to shoot by myself all day and not worry about what someone else considers safe, then I'm good. If I want to bring 10 people out for an all-day shoot and not worry about guest rules and event day rules, then I'm good.

Making it happen is a bit of a challenge, but it's a pretty big priority for me right now.

Minnetonka on 15 is close for me. It only has a 100 yard rifle range. The pistol range goes to 50, but no holster-work, and you must pause noticeably after every 6 rounds (rifle and pistol).
It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

JoeCool, You in or out? Give me a call soon. If yes then we can arrange a range orientation.
