Sherburne County Sheriff's Range is Closed to the Public

Postby IDPA Shooter on Fri Feb 08, 2008 7:45 am

The range is now closed to the public based on the sheriff's reported concerns of liability that could occur from not having control of who enters the facility. Myself and others on this board were volunteer range officers there and just got the news from the deputy who serves as rangemaster for Sherburne.

Being the range is attached to the jail and other security concerns, the Sheriff
made the decision to close the range to all non-law enforcement use. We were told there were no incidents, just concerns over the public's use of the range. It was nice while it lasted, as it is an excellent facility.

Check with the county board, there might be prohibitions against him doing that. It may have been partially funded as civic use kind of thing, maybe some park board money, if so, its not his choice.

I would also write him a letter asking him to reconsider, while vaguely stating what year his re-election is coming due, and how it does not do well for him to upset such a united and informed group of voters.
