There are a couple nice things about the state sectional.
1. There are a lot of shooters from all over the state (about 85 so far), if you want to know where you stand in a division in MN, you'll know.
2. RO's are certified and assigned to stages, which generally leads to more consistent application of the rules and less made up rules.
3. Squad sizes are limited to 10. This along with #2 usually means the day goes pretty fast, unless your squad is really lazy you can move through stages pretty quick.
4. If you think that you will shoot nationals or an area match anytime in the near future, go. Area's and Nationals aren't run like local matches, they are run like the sectional. It's good to see before you blow $300-$500 to shoot a match and get kicked in to open for putting your barney mag in the wrong pocket, or having a piece of grip tape in the wrong spot on your production gun.
