Rainbow Sportsmen vs Gopher Campfire

Postby antimatter on Sat Mar 10, 2012 2:43 pm

I'm in the process of picking a club to join. I'm finding the indoor ranges in town a bit constricting and would like a chance stretch my legs a bit and try some distance shooting. Both clubs are about an hour West of where I live, which is the limit for me to drive to shoot on a regular basis.

I had been leaning towards Rainbow, but a friend mentioned the steel shoots at Gopher Campfire. I went to their web site and had a hard time figuring out what sort of shooting ranges they have, and what sort of ammunition is allowed. Rainbow seems like its a bit more limited by its proximity to the Crow River, meaning when the river is running high no shooting is allowed.

What sort of ranges does Gopher have? I'm not a trap, skeet or sporting clays shooter (yet), so I don't have a lot of interest in that area. Right now I'm doing monthly handgun shooting to keep my skills current, but my wife has expressed interest in going along with me if we were to do some rim-fire rifle shooting.

Thanks.

No FMJ on 50 yard range. 2 pistol ranges, 1 50 yard and 1 100 yard. Half price steel shoot entry. Pays for the annual fee and they don't require working time.

Rainbow can go out to 300 yards.

Gopher can't.

Rainbow floods out on occasion.

Gopher Cant.

Will have to say that this is the way to go, both are nice, but both very different.
