2013 MN NRA Highpower match schedule

Postby Erud on Sat Nov 03, 2012 9:18 am

For anyone who may be interested, the 2013 schedule for HP rifle just got posted to the MRRA web page here:

http://mrra.org/hipower.htm

Highpower is a great sport that will teach you outstanding fundamentals that will transfer directly to any other type of shooting you choose to do. New shooters are always welcome. I have 30 days on my calendar of HP matches that I intend to shoot in MN in 2013, so if you want to check one out, let me know as I will probably be there. Always happy to help out a new shooter - I'll even loan you a rifle and gear for the match if you need it. Lots of other shooters will as well. I will try to get results posted here for matches I make it to. Take a look at the link below for a good overview of what is involved in HP shooting:

Regards,
Erik

Erik reached out to help me get into this when I posted some questions elsewhere and hopefully I will have time to actually get to a match this time around to observe.

Thank you, Erik.

Getting close now. If you've ever tried(and enjoyed) an Appleseed clinic, this is a great next step. You can learn to shoot a rifle at 600 yards with no scope!

If anyone is interested, drop me a line.

Thanks,
Erik

Really, no scope? What kind of accuracy, minute of Volkswagen?

You've obviously never done any shooting through a good set of match peeps. You would be surprised.

Another match is in the history books. The annual Atkinson-Luebke Memorial 3-Day OTC was held last weekend at Northwestern Gun Club near Duluth. This is the only 3-day, 2400 point agg match in the state and the only weekend a shooter could re-classify upward in a single match if they shoot well. This is always a fun match and one of my favorites of the year. The numbers were pretty low due to an ominous weather forecast(70-80% chance of rain on Friday AND Saturday), but we managed to get all shots off with only occasional light sprinkles. Another one down. The 2013 Long Range Regional Championship Match was held this past weekend at Gopher Rifle and Revolver Club up in Harris. This match typically consists of 3x 20-shot strings at 1000 yards using Any Rifle/Iron Sight on Saturday, followed by the same course of fire using Any Rifle/Any Sight on Sunday. Sunday's match had to be cancelled due to all-day rain, so only the Any/Iron matches were fired this year. Favorable conditions on Saturday led to some high scores, but things got a little more tricky in the afternoon with fast-switching winds that caused some problems for some excellent shooters. Saturday afternoon concluded with a 2-man team match which consisted of another 1000-yard string for each shooter. The team match was won by Lacrosse Rifle Clubs team of Jay Johnson and living legend Bill Lair with a 391. North Star Rifle Club's team finished second. Sorry, I did not get the full F-Class results, but I know that their match was won by North Star Rifle Club's Pat Scully with a fine score of 588-with a bunch of X's.

See below for sling results:

MN state championship match is this weekend in Red Wing. Anybody going to go? Lots of historic hardware will be awarded to the winners. The long-lost MN team championship trophy was recently found and will be awarded to the winning team for the first time since 1936! It's at my house now and I intend for it to still be here after this weekend.... 8-)

Erud, is it possible for someone who his physically unable to shoot from the Prone position, to compete in these matches? I can shoot the other positions, I just can't go prone. My hip and back won't permit it, nor could I get my big butt up off the ground, if I could get prone.

I'm looking for an alternative to the 1000 yd 50 BMG (like I shot with OldmanFCSA two weekends ago) until I can get my own 50 BMG Rifle.

Also, are there any competitions for shooting 300+ yds with rifles such as Weatherby's or Remington 700's ? Oldman got me highly interested in the long range shooting, but disability income currently limits my ability to purchase new weapons, until I save enough pennies to buy one.

Thanks in advance,

Jim
