Can you use stubby vertical foregrip in Tactical Lim/Op class?
If so, if you touch barriers with it, is that going to throw you into the open class?
Can you remove it and place it back on the gun during the match if there is a possible chance that it may act as a monopod?
Thank you.
Thanks for confirming with us. When in doubt, always ask the Match Director(s). This has been a debate in a lot of matches, and a little bit in ours. Jay and I have discussed this and just did so again.
Our rules states, "5.7 Certain firearm supporting devices may be prohibited by the Match Director."
Vertical foregrips are allowed in any class, but if it is used intentionally as a mono-pod, the shooter will be placed in the Open Class. As for touching barriers and using it for support as such, we have no problem with it.
Our rules also states, "5.5 Competitors will not reconfigure any firearm during the course of a match."
Removing and re-installing any equipment on a firearm (except slings) is considered reconfiguring. The only time this will be allowed is if a piece of equipment broke or become inoperable and cannot be replaced with a same or similar equipment, the shooter will be allowed to remove the broken equipment.
Our matches are more relaxed as there is nothing to be won besides bragging rights. For this 2-gun match, our purpose is more fun and training, and for people with duty guns or home defense guns to bring them out.
Personally, I run a vertical foregrip light on my duty gun which I will be using this Saturday for a little live fire training. Otherwise, I don't use it in my competition guns as they prove to be more of an obstruction.
