3 gun shooting course without 3gun...

Postby bonta on Wed Feb 05, 2014 5:26 pm

Hey guys I'm new to mnguntalk and I have to say that I'm loving every bit of this place!!! Anyways I was wondering if there's any local clubs or range that have a 3 gun course but only using pistol. Or sorta like swat training or police training in a way. That way its more practical than just aiming n shooting at paper....

There are several clubs out there that hold practical pistol shooting events, but you might want to state your location to find what's close.

I think what you are looking for is USPSA or IDPA pistol matches. In the winter, the only place to competitive pistol is indoors at Burnsville Pistol Range. It just so happens the next match is tomorrow night! Take a look through this thread for some video the shooters post: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=45575

Oakdale gun club and Forest Lake Sportsmens Club both have USPSA practical pistol matches once it warms up.

+1 - if you're in the St. Paul/Woodbury area, OGC is going to be your best bet for USPSA - it's just north of Woodbury.

The website hasn't been updated with the schedule for 2014 yet, but it should look pretty similar to the 2013 schedule unless something goofy happens: http://9x23.net/ (click "when" on the left side to get the schedule)

The basic gist of it is that it starts in early/mid May and goes through August, meeting at OGC every Thursday evening. If you want to help out with stage setup, etc, that usually gets going around 3:30 or 4:00 PM, shooting starts ~ 5:15 or a little after. Usually there are 2 long and 2 short courses of fire, with one of the short ones being a classifier.
