Edina Shooting range

Postby coltpeacemakerfan on Mon Apr 14, 2014 9:59 pm

Hey there everyone I'm looking at going to the Edina Public Shooting range. Never been there before and have always wanted to go. If anyone from Edina or anyone in general has gone there let me know how it is and what is like etc? If anyone is looking for a shooting buddy to go to the Edina public range let me know I would be down for trying it out.

It's clean but dimly lit and you can't keep your ejected brass. They also have a longish minimum target distance so don't bother bringing anything with a 2" barrel unless you really like the challenge. I'm sure I will go back some time, but it's not #1 on my list of favorite ranges just because I have a hard time seeing the targets between the dim lighting and their long minimum target distance.

So its a range where we should be using revolvers so we can easily police our brass by dumping into our hands and transferring to our range bags.

I was at a underground range in Marshalltown Iowa where they had the same rule about empty brass. A energetic range officer almost was shot when he walked the bench line dumping everyone's empty brass on the floor while they were shooting and sweeping it into a pile in the corner. This was back when most of us shot revolvers.

As you can tell, I don't like ranges that charge a above normal or excessive fee, and then steal your brass to bag and re-sell on-site which they got for free. Still others do not allow reloaded ammo and then charge exorbitant prices for their ammo, some of which has been reloaded and boxed in factory boxes.

So, be careful of the ranges you support, and support the ones that work with you! Decide if close to home is truly worth it.

Not allowing you to recover your brass is just shady. That's effectively like charging an extra fee on top of whatever you paid to use the range in the first place.

If this is the Braemar range we're talking about, I've been to the range multiple times and I've always collected my brass. Unless they've had a policy change, just let the ROs know you're a reloader and they let you take what you brought.

The ROs seemed cool when I was there, I would guess they might bend the spent brass rule. I never asked to keep brass because I forgot my magazine at home so I could only shoot revolver and my girlfriend's 22lr. I am merely referring to the sign that I saw posted that said "all spent brass becomes property of the range" or some such wording, and the cool brass sweeper that one of the ROs was constantly running around with pushing brass out beyond the firing line.

Remember that the range was not originally designed for the public. The sign there indicating not collecting spent brass is not for the public shooters. I was informed of this after talking to the employees there.

One would then think that the sign should be taken down, no?

The range is only open to the public Wednesday evening and Saturday from 8 until 2.

The website above should answer most questions.
