Burnsville Winter League 2014-15

Postby SkyRock on Fri Aug 22, 2014 10:34 am

OK, it's that time of year, again. We've got an approved schedule from Burnsville for the Practical Pistol Winter League. Here 'tis:

Orientation: 9/11/2014 (includes 1 short stage)
Match 1: 9/25/2014
Match 2: 10/9/2014
Match 3: 10/23/2014
Match 4: 11/6/2014
Match 5: 11/20/2014
Match 6: 12/4/2014
Match 7: 12/18/2014
Match 8: 1/8/2015
Match 9: 1/22/2015
Match 10: 2/12/2015
Match 11: 2/26/2015
Match 12: 3/12/2015
Match 13: 3/26/2015
Trophy Night: 4/9/2015 (includes "fun" match)

Except for November and December, matches are the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month. In November and December, they are held on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month.

The Orientation consists of a classroom discussion about what we do, and what we expect of you. It starts at 6:30. After the discussion, there will be a short stage to expose you to "this is what we're talking about."

The regular matches consist of a signup (at 6PM), shooting two stages (starting at 7PM). We seldom go past 9:30, including cleanup.

Hope to see you there. :D

Is there a sticky somewhere about round count per match? Sorry, my google-fu skills are weak...

Not really. USPSA rules state a max of 32 per COF. We aren't affiliated with USPSA, so we can have stages with more, if we want. However, there's only so many targets that can fit in a 24' wide bay, even if they're stacked.

I have been asked to have some stages with "more round counts than last year." So I'd say the stages vary from 6 rounds to ...whatever!

Multiplied times 2, and you've got...12 to much more, rounds per match. ;)

I imagine that folks who are regulars at OGC (or other USPSA or IDPA events) could skip the orientation without issue?

Well...probably. The major difference that seems to "bite" the "regulars" that shoot .40S&W in Production is selecting Minor when they enter. At BPR, if you shoot a Major caliber, you select Major on your scoresheet. We also have a Light power factor for those that don't want to go out and buy a new gun just to try this sport, when they have a perfectly good .22LR to use. I wouldn't recomend using it for the full season, however. ;)

As a side note, one of the guys that helps put these matches on brought his daughter with her 1911 in .22LR. She didn't place well, but she was the safest first-time shooter I've ever seen! Did I mention that she was 11? :bravo:

The definition of Divisions and Power Factors are on every scoresheet, but it's suprising how many times I've been told "I didn't read that!" :rulez: :o

Safety rules are the same as USPSA, though. If you've shot IDPA, 3gun, USPSA, Steel Shoot or any of the action pistol type matches, the material at the orientation won't be new to you. It's primarily geared toward those that have never shot any kind of action pistol match. For those that have attended a shooting school, I'd still recomend that you come to the orientation. If you've shot pistol competition, but never the "action pistol" type, the orientation is definately for you, too.

Ah, I see. I suppose that could trip some people up (it'd definitely surprise me if I was a .40 shooter), but at least it's not a safety or procedural issue.

How does scoring for the season work? Not that I'd be in the running but do you need to attend all matches? Best of xx?

We have 13 matches for score (plus a Trophy Night match at the end of the season). To be eligible for a season score, you must enter at least 8 of the 13 matches. Your final score is based on the best 8 of the matches you attend.

I've just about got myself persuaded to show up on Thursday; if I do, do you need help with setup, or do the smaller number of stages and lack of steel to haul around vs OGC USPSA make that not an issue?
