Club near Nowthen

I just bought 9 acres by Nowthen. I can hear shooting from the property, which I'm pretty sure is Minnetonka Game and Fish. I understand that they have 2-3 year waiting list and need a reference from a member in good standing. Where does one go to meet a member in good standing, and is there another club close by that I should be considering?

Yes, your place. You have 9 acres - why would you join a club?

Beaverbrook shouldn't be too bad of a drive. Or Elk River, but I haven't heard anything good about that place. If you like lots of rules and shooting paper it may be fine.

^^^This^^^. Being able to shoot in your back yard rocks. Especially if you are a hand loader doing load development.

It's about 1 acre of trees. The rest of it is wetland made up of cattails, willows and standing water. I'm not sure, but I suspect that some if it is floating peat. I'm fat and out of shape, and I'm not really planning on going out there when it isn't frozen over. I may be able to hang some gongs when it's frozen, and I can shoot over the chrony, but I still think I'll need access too a range.

Does Beaver Brook go out past 100 yards on the rifle range?

Not at this time.
When I was last a member (2014) there was some talk of building a 300yd range; not sure where that plan is at.

Sad to admit I haven't even been to the club since I renewed my membership in January, but the last newsletter indicated they had a permit in hand and were planning to break ground in the 300 yard range in spring. Anybody been out to the range in the past month and have any insight?

Beaverbrook has not expanded their rifle range yet. They have just tripled (or more) their pistol bay areas though. I am not sure when they all will be functioning, but they look pretty close to done.

There was some rumblings about moving the building by the rifle and pistol bays, but it is still in the same place. The 200 or 300 yard rifle range is still in the master plan, but do not know when they will be breaking ground on it.

The initial dirt work for the 6 new pistol bays at Beaverbrook is complete. The seeding will begin very soon, the road to the new bays will be upgraded after the ground has had time to settle. I expect some or all of the new bays to be open this fall.

Plans for a longer rifle range are still under discussion.
