1 Day AR Classes , Beginning and Advanced

Postby IDPA Shooter on Sat Mar 06, 2010 10:47 pm

We are again offering 8 hour AR classes for beginning students in the Spring and Fall. These classes will once again be taught by Steve Quill, retired Wright County Sheriff's deputy. For over 20 years Steve served as his department's chief firearms trainer. Steve also serves Range Master and head of permit to carry training at Monticello Sportsmans. In these dual roles Steve has experience training hundreds and hundreds of law enforcement officers and civilians.

Also, since last year's beginners classes were so well received we have added two advanced AR courses. While the basic course has no prerequisites these courses require either the basic class or verifiable current knowledge of your AR. This is not the class to show up with the new AR that you do not have have broken in and sighted in. This is primarily a shooting course and we will be also be doing transitions between the AR and pistol and engaging steel. Please let us know your shooting background when registering for this class.

Cost of all the classes is $175 and includes lunch, targets and all range fees. All classes are held at Monticello Sportman's and several forums members attended last years intro classes and I encourage their comments on the class.

Great class, Excellent teacher! I would highly recommend taking this class, The class covered from the history of the AR to take down and reassembly , practice drills of getting on target, trigger control... sighting in. Many shooting positions including standing, kneeling, prone, moving while shooting. Short and long range targets. Cleaning our AR's at the end of the day. I wanted to know I could completely understand how the AR works so when I'm out shooting I have the knowledge to work Thu any problems that may arise. I loved the class so much I'm registered to take the advanced class this May and can't wait!!! Well worth your time and money! Thanks Steve and all the rest for putting on such a fine event!

Much more was covered than mentioned.

OK, folks limited sign ups for the basic class, a good price for a great class. We'll now add your choice of a free copy of Michael Martin's excellent new carry book ( $27.95), or Utah training free ( $25) for anyone who attends or sends a friend to to our MN carry class at the normal $125 cost. See Dawn's comments, I think you will find it money well spent.

Bump - We have a good sized advanced class and will hold the basic class for the few that have signed up. Don't miss the chance to to get some hands on training from an excellent instructors. I'll be at Twin Cities IDPA on 5/8 enjoying Joe's courses, so you don't even have to put up with me.

Great course, Steve is a great instructor, and had good classmates as well, several of whom I would be exceedingly reluctant to shoot against for money. Half classroom, lunch, time to zero, then off to the hundred yard line. Ouch, that concrete is hard. Then moving and shooting, walking towards the targets starting at 50 yards. A cleaning tutorial with a few gems you might have missed, then on home. I'm planning to take course 2 in the fall.

I have completed the advanced AR-15 tactical class Sat 5-22. Steve is an excellent instructor!!! We started the day at 8:00 a.m. with some warm up drills at 25 yards, then moved out to many drills at the 50 yard including mag changes, malfunction clearing, moving while shooting, working with a sling. Had a small break for lunch while the rain hit. We were lucky it blew over and out we went for a afternoon full of many more drills including transition from our rifle to our hand guns and back to rifles. After we were all exhausted from our training, we ran a stage similar to USPSA. Man was it a tough one it included movement from 4 bays around the club house to the 100 yard range for 3 different shooting positions and all the way back to the 1st bay to finish with 7 steel plates all under the clock in 1 continued string. It was a total BLAST! My legs still haven't recovered, even after a trip to the hot tub last evening. We finished by 5:00 and cleaned our weapons and were given Completion certificates. I would highly recommend taking this class from Steve! Thank you Steve and Bob for sharing your knowledge and time with us! I loved this class and would attend any other class by Steve!

Thanks again
