General Question On Permit Class

Postby TC95GT on Sat Aug 04, 2007 2:50 pm

Hopefully this is the correct forum for this question.

If not please feel free to move it.

My wife is finally going to get her carry permit and I have a question regarding the shooting qualification.

Is the shooting qualification the same for every instructor? In other words, is the target distance, the number of shots taken, the time allowed and the score required all the same?

I think this has been discussed before but I cant remember and cant find anything on it so any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Nope, it varies between instructors. The law says something like "actual shooting exercise" so it's left to the discretion of the instructor as to how to interpret that. I think most instructors realize that shooting at a range in a structured situation is quite different from shooting under a life-or-death situation.

No, it varies. Here is a small discussion about it. (Unfortunately I linked to a discussion that is not in a public forum. ) Short answer is still the same, it varies considerably.

Just got back from class today with ttousi instructing...outstanding instructor. This was my second time taking the class(I just sat in because I brought my sister, wife, my pastor, and two other guys to the class). Met rucker...great guy.

I would highly recommend ttousi! My wife learned a lot and said she would take it again just to soak more info in. jac714 was a good source of info as well.

I like the open-endedness of the MN requirements.

In Nebraska there is a mandated 30 round course of fire in 5 different strings of 6 shots. I cringe when one of the participants is using a 5 shot snubby! It actually has the potential to be dangerous.

But, for a different post, not as dangerous as using a "saturday night special" in class.
