Groupon deals

So... not going to name any names, but today's Groupon is for a Permit Class at $135, reg $350.

Has anyone ever heard of a $350 permit to carry class or have any knowledge of what features it has?

If you read the details, the $135 option is for a voucher for two.

Okay, so $175 for one person at reg price. Has anyone ever taken a $175 permit class? I'm genuinely curious what the features of it are.

IIRC, their listings on Craigslist before they did the groupon were "$60 per person (you pay range expenses) with a $30 deposite". With their first groupon, their prices were suddenly $160 each, making the groupon 50% off at $79. That looks remarkably like $60 + range fee. Of course, they give half of THAT to Groupon. Now they're listing their "regular" price as $175, up from $160?

I remember Joel Rosenberg's classes being $175 - $200 all inclusive and he was an excellent instructor.

Wasn't his philosophy that if you charge the most money, you must be the best?

Groupon takes half? Living Social does, as well. When Living Social approached me about a deal (which I didn't end up doing, in the end), they said I would have to give them half. At the time, I was at $80 on my class. I didn't want to do the class for $40, even if it does 'bring people in the door for future classes'. So their answer? "Just double your price when we start advertising the deal, so it looks like a good value and you'll make as much; then when the deal is no longer available, bring your price back down."

I think he went with: There's cheap and easy and then there's great. I'm Great!

That is a paraphrase of course and somewhat reflects his many personal vendettas.(I'm biased as I made his hit list in a minor way.)

Living Social did a deal with the brew shop I work at and the boss said "never again." They lost money over and above what they might have gained in new customers and that's not counting the hassle of dealing with the vouchers.
