I see the new fee schedule does not include disabled veterans in the free column. Has this been eliminated? :salute:

No, when you go to register you'll see this under the Free Ticket section:

Active Military, Reserve, and Guard, Peace Officers, Disabled, (each require ID), Re-enactors in period dress, Elected officials (w/proof)

I actually can't recall if the free for disable veterans was ever advertised on the regular fee schedule.
The change this year was primarily driven by a desire to simplify it. So, when someone asks us how much; we don't have to pull out a flow chart and a spreadsheet....

I have heard of the APPLESEED but don't understand what exactly it is. I believe I would be interested if I had more information. What type firearms are required? Are they only military style or does any qualify? What is the main goal of this? If there is a link that explains everything please post it. Better yet, if anyone is willing to call me and explain please pm me and I'll send you my phone number. I am certainly curious.

Thanks

Thank you very much. When I searched earlier my search did not find the page you linked, so this helped me a great deal. I am thinking of signing up to see if they discover any bad habits I've developed over the years and if I do have them, they can help me train them away and increase my shooting abilities. I guess I had better get busy loading up some rifle rounds.

If I may,

No, doubt that despite my best efforts our site pushes people towards Marlins and Rugers. Ironically, that started as an alternative to center fires, when ammo went through the roof. But I would like to clarify that we're not a .22lr class, we are indeed a rifle class and our points of instruction are center fire orientated.

.22lr's are a great cost effective way to increase your shooting ability and perfect for new shooters who may otherwise be intimidated by recoil. When we're shooting at 25m - they do just fine.

That being said, there are things you learn while shooting a center fire - that you don't learn with your .22lr.
People discover there's a learning curve jumping up to a center fire, not so going the other way.
Therefor, I'd recommend that if it's feasible for the individual, they bring their center fire.
That way they can get the most out of their experience.
(As far as I'm aware, all MN Appleseeds are open to calibers up to 8mm)

Our Course of Fire is created around the use of a rack-grade, iron-sight, semi-auto with detachable magazines.
If you're running a slower system, that's perfectly fine. You'll just learn how to run it faster.
And faster systems might have to run a bit slower.

Rifles with large learning curves are: Pump, break, and single shot. Unless you're really looking for bragging points, or if that's all you've got, you might want to leave those at home.

But one thing that sets Appleseed apart from many other shooting sports classes and disciplines is that we're not equipment focused.
We are student focused. It's not the rifle that counts, it's the man behind the rifle.

If all a person has is a .22lr Cricket and they come to an Appleseed and learn how to use it - they are much better off than the guy with an LRB M14, sitting in the closet collecting dust.

Bottom line we want to teach you how to shoot your rifle, to rifleman standards.
(That's 4 moa - out to 500yds - from field positions with a rack rifle and ball ammo.)

My personal recommendation would be to bring the rifle that you'd grab if the Redcoats were once again marching on Concord.
